Suggestion: A symbol for old question, and it could be a quick link to pages that offer the answer to that question -- answers the question efficently without much fuss before getting dropped, locked, or flamed anyway(ie. openGl versus DirectX, or C versus C++, or HeaderFiles? or Best C++ Book? or etc.) AND a filter to control the post listing -- perhaps adding the ability to select "hot topics" or "moderator''s choice" or even "designer''s choices" etc.. That might be cool. " ''No one has control -- control is just a fantasy. And being human is difficult.'' "

Wouldn''t a Wiki be a more robust solution to the fundamental problem of redundancy?

It definitely would, but it would also require from all users to be mature and responsible - otherwise you get absolute chaos. And seing what we already have here on GDNet sometimes, I don''t even dare to imagine what would happen if it was transfered to a Wiki.

On the other hand, a Wiki could turn GDNet into an excellent indexed information source. If write access would be highly restricted to a selected set of members, and new members would only be accepted by a referendum, then things could get interesting. Read access would be granted to everybody.

But I guess this is somewhat against the spirit of GDNet. If we could, however, create a little professionals-only corner, which would be organized as a Wiki, wouldn''t it be profitable for all sides ? The pros get a nice sparate discussion corner (could attract more industry professionals, btw), the information is available to everybody in a convenient way, and standard members could be promoted into the ''VIP section''.

If the new forums are going to have user ratings, how about restricting Wiki editing to those with high ratings? Everyone else could be stuck with just reading it, unless they post in the forums and demonstrate some intelligence.

Also, I''d say that such a Wiki ought not to duplicate any information that exists in the site articles - links to them would be best.

Each Wiki page could have a list of links to relevant articles at the top of the page, and then Wiki-specific stuff after it. Then as pages grow, information could be collected into a definite ''article'' on a single topic and posted (the idea being that information will only collect in the Wiki if it''s not already covered by the articles).

Heh.. the Wiki would almost be a sort of ''organic breeding pile'' for articles.
