SNOW DAY: hell ya
Advertisement
Original Post
I awoke this morning to my alarm clock set on a local radio station to the words, "All local schools are canceled for today." I then went back to sleep for two more hours. When I finally woke up there was about 10 inches of snow. I live on 11 acres of land with about 1/3 of that pine trees and some good hills for sleding. doesn''t get much better than this.
cheers,
Joe

Ha ha, you lost a day of your education (and the exam will be just as hard). To top it off you still got to pay for it (or more accurately your parents did).
And why is the 2nd of January so bad? There is no holiday, why bother wasting that time? If North America got rid of all its silly "school breaks" (including the 2 month summer break, which is useless now that most people either live in the city or use mexican labor to harvest instead of child labor) it might start producing people who could actually locate their country on a map or pass a basic literacy test.

well, I''m still in High school, so I''m not paying for jack squat, my exams aren''t that hard (relatively speaking), and that''s why I have to go back on the 2nd.

That''s why I said it''s your parents paying, since they do pay for your school, the teachers, the text books, the administration, etc through there tax dollars (depending on where you are you might even have it seperated as a school tax). And when you get out of highschool and start doing your real education (the one *you* get to pay for) you won''t particularly like snow days, teacher strikes and anything else that screws you over (U of T students got that a few years back when the profs demanded to be paid like celebrities, and striked for weeks). And if you don''t like school then (or can''t put up with those "evil" teachers) then you''re really going to be screwed when you get out into the real world.
Get a job, ya bum!

lol
well, amongst school work, working out for baseball 5 days a week, and playing drums, I find it hard to work during the school year. I do, however, work during the summer as a computer programmer. I''m a rather busy bum.

That sounds a lot like Canada... unless you''re one of those British Columbia Wusses.
Pft, snow day an excuse for a day off. I actually want snow, but not for a day off, because Alberta Farmers need the bloody stuff. The last two years Alberta has had major drought and forest fires, all because of our lack of snow.
As for it being cold: I have been known to dash to school, a twenty minute walk normally, in a t-shirt, jeans with ripped knees, gloves, a denim jacket, and a yellow gilligan style hat when it is -20°C without wind chill facter. My only complaint is that it would be so dry out my chapped lips are driving me nuts.
