Hi I am soon to be getting a Dual Head video card and a Second monitor. Can anyone give me any pointers to getting Debug Output on the second monitor and how to set this up? At the moment DirectX8 is set up for retail use not Debug, I can't find the setting to change this back. Where is it? Thanks Giles Roadnight giles.roadnight.name [edited by - Roaders on January 13, 2003 9:28:09 AM]

Normally in Windows with dual monitors, you set one of your monitors as your "primary display" or something like that. This is the monitor that programs open up in, and full screen programs display in. So if you just open up Visual Studio and move it to your secondary display, then start your debuggin'', you should be fine.

Controlpanel->DirectX.

You can change the debug setting for each component individually (Direct3D/DirectSound etc...).

I have now uninstalled and re-installed my DX8 SDK twice installing it with the debug option selected. When I go control panel -> directX the radio buttons still say retail not debug and the option is still greyed out on all of the screens. What''s going wrong?

Make sure you install the SDK with the DEBUG Runtimes, the debug runtimes include both retail and debug. Reinstall the sdk and post your problems after that.

OK, I downloaded a different version of the DXSDK install file and I now have the debug options selected in the DirectX control panel.

The thing is I still can''t get any debug info.

I am new to DirectX and have never used the debud tools in Visual Studio - before I just outputted a line at the command prompt. I want to be able to record how a variable cahnges wach time that function is run. I have tried loads of things nad have spent all morning wading through the web trying to find out the best way to do this.

I have tried breakpoints and watches that didn''t seem to work as my app runs full screen and I have tried OutputDebugString() and loads of variations on this. OutputDebugString seems to be working best so far as the program will compile with it in the code - the others I tried didn''t. However when the program has finished executing the test output that I put in the function does not appear on the debug tab.

Please help me with this it is drinving me nuts!!
