Hi. I''ve been using the OpenGL Game Programming book to design an engine. Based on the book, it suggests the use of DirectInput and DirectSound for input and sound. However, I discovered that DirectSound doesn''t seem to support mp3 format files (since I want to play music in my programs) and I feel that mp3s are a nice, compact format compared to wavs. Can anyone suggest what I should do? I noticed that in the DirectX 8.0 SDK that the DirectShow samples support mp3 playback. Unfortunately, the SDK help files was a little vague and the commenting, as you can probably imagine, is very sparse. Seeing as how I have a very bad understanding of DirectX, I was wondering if anyone could give me some help in this area?

Look into using the IGraphBuilder Interface. There''s a method called RenderFile that all you have to do is pass it a filename and it builds the graph needed to play that file back.
