hi, I think the games made in opengl for wndows platform uses directaudio and directinput etc.. for sounds and input.. What does Linux games use for audio and input needs? Also do i need to use a window manager like motif to develop a game for linux? Does X11 have enough support for a fullscreen game? I mean can i use X11 and open one or more windows, draw into them and switch between them like we do on windows platforms?

Go to google and perform the following search "linux games programming". You will have more information than you could possibly want.

See above.

You don''t necessarily need a window manager (much like DOS games don''t), but someone has to ultimately talk to the framebuffer.

Yes.

Yes you can. X11/Xm is a very mature windowing system.

You defenitely have to check out sdl. www.libsdl.org
also check out QT, a API like the windows API (both for win. linux and mac actually) with the possibility to connect it to OpenGL. But i think sdl is the most used library for linux game development today
good luck
