Hello everyone, I''m going to be ghosting my current hard drive on to a larger one and I need a way to resize the partition afterwards. I want to take advantage of the the new space the drive is going to give me without making a new partition. I know Partition Magic will do the job, but I don''t really want to pay $70 for a product I''m only going to use once. The demo unfortunatly will only so the effects of a change to a partition but will not apply them. Does anyone know of an alternate way to resize an NTFS partition running Windows XP? Thanks for any help.

I did some fairly extensive searching on this a while back. I couldn''t find any free tool to non-destructively resize an NTFS partition, and apparently even Partition Magic doesn''t do it very reliably. Sorry.

fdisk.

fdisk can''t split partitions, it can only delete a partition in its entirety and put smaller ones in it''s place. Since you are using Ghost (and thus can afford to mess things up and just ghost right back) try out FIPS (also check out some of the docs for it at Redhats site). I''m not sure how well it works with NTFS partitions, as I''ve only used it to resize ext2 and fat32.

Partition Magic is the most reliable software for the job.
You might want to consider buying it from [a legitamite store, so that I don't have to come to your house and 'cut' you for posting 'certain' things on a software development board].

Well since I can't find a cost effective solution to this situation I'm just going to do it the hard way. Install XP on the new drive and copy all my data over. No big deal, just like reinstalling the system.

Thanks for the sugestions.
