Slider control init?

I've added a slider control (not a scroll bar) to a dialogtemplate in MSVC++. For initalization, I call:
temp = SetScrollInfo( GetDlgItem( g_hWnd, IDC_TIME_SLIDE ), SB_CTL, &si, true );
temp2 = GetLastError();

A debug reveals that:
temp = 0
temp2 = 120

The error code 120 means that the func is not supported, but it should be cause I have win98 (look msdn). My question is if I use the correct funcs for initializing the slider control and, if it was correct, why the error claims that that func is not supported on my system. Any tip wanted! I've now changed the code to

SendMessage( GetDlgItem( g_hWnd, IDC_TIME_SLIDE ), TBM_SETRANGE, true, MAKELONG( 0, 24*60 ) );
temp = GetLastError();

Still temp = 120

I find this kind of frustrating.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Anyone have a clue?

EDIT: Actualize
