Could someone recommend a good flatbed scanner for less than 500 USD? Are there any scanners that can handle both photo negatives/positives and paper copies?

Get one with a Z-Lid, or something similar. The Canon scanners have them I know. The hinge on the lid is able to expand up, and I wish my Canon scanner had that, because a lot of stuff I need to scan isn''t perfectly flat. But yeah, I recommend a Canon in general, because they are so much more compact, yet the same scan quality as other beefy models. I love my Canon scanner.

Think I''ll settle for a Canon CanoScan 5000F. I heard it can handle slides/negatives pretty well. Has anyone tried it?
