Programmers = Gods?

I thinks it''s about time we start getting the respect we deserve.

Well, God created the entire Earth in 7 days, but I''m going on my 3rd year of a simple 2D RPG.

I agree to the extent that we (programmers/scripters of the game engine) are Gods in the respect of pulling everything together and hoping it runs. However I wouldn''t nessicarly say we are Gods in making up the idea (unless it is the programmers that made up the game themselfs - the ideas,characters,towns,npcs,etc)

One of my professors claimed that software engineering is the single most difficult and complex endeavor that mankind has ever undertaken. When you think about millions of lines of code working together as one unit, it is pretty amazing. Now I just use that as my excuse whenever my code doesn''t work. "Well of course it doesn''t work, this crap is hard!"

I''m god in a suitcase... minus the suitcase. Used to be my old saying back in highschool computer class .

Hmmm.... That person sounds just like a friend of mine. Yes it''s true that SOME people will bow to your skills, but some people (namely the IDIOTS) won''t give a rat''s ass about it and just do what they always do, make a wierd face, sucker punch you in the gut and steal your lunch money.... Sorry, I really never use personal references in cases like this but... *sniff* don''t look at me!

Well, they say we were created at the image and similarity of God. We share the creative spirit with him, in a human level. Anyway, God *created" things. We just give shape to them.

heh, the only respect you will get being a programmer is from other programmers (or those who want to be) and possibly ''hard core gamers''. I think the people who dont know a thing about programming just find it borring, not admirable. Unless you have lots of money, THEN people will bow down to you.

I dont think programmers are Gods but it does take a special mind(maybe a little insane)to code well. However I think in the future our skills will be less and less respected, because more and more people will know how to program. I mean it is much easier to programm in C then it is to program in assembly, and Im sure improvements like that will come along and soon many more will know our little secret. People right now think its boring because they don''t understand it. they don''t understand the creativity it takes to have an idea and translate that into code. I pity them though because they will also never see the wonderful site of hundreds of lines of code being compiled finnaly with no errors :D However in the future I see many more people learning how to program, I mean I started programming a few years ago, and even then there was not nearly as many people that knew how to program in a language such as C as there is now.

do you all really think god even exist? ... I supose that´s because that´s what the dolar says... why don´t you just save your words and help me... I just need an example in c++ of a side scroll movement of a screen or something... thankxzs anyway.

Actually in a way game programmers are gods. I tell you why. Its becuase we create little worlds. we are the gods of the world we create. We''re not the gods of this world...but the gods of our own worlds. Once AI is really really really sophisticated and computers can handle a lot a lot of data at once, i beleive we programmers CAN make an earth/universe.

Gods are real, in the sense something that is above any level of understanding we have yet holds our understanding and more can be considered godly. Nature is God. Its the only thing in REALITY that can destroy for purposes of creation. We destroy to destroy.

Just because you might not experience Him to be, that does not mean God is not real. In my experience, God is quite real.

Thats that strange thing called proof. Faith is strong. Faith is used to drive will and strength, not to illude the mind to a false hope. I know if I fail, its my fault, and my opportunity to learn and learn to better my own goals. I dont need an imaginary character to help me, thats for children watching peter pan. Science can prove the existance of things older then the bible, yet do you honestly think "god" created the world roughly 10,000-20,000 years ago? hahaha Im sure thats the age of the bible from memory. Better go and seek some advice from the almighty, unquestionable, unmovable and yes UNPROVABLE 'God' on this one.

We could consider religion to be like a bad recursive algorithm. The true evil in the world is caused because of a recursion (religions own teachings) that crashes the machine - earth.

Get real, make the world a safer place, code hard, apply logic, advance, become a better humanity through advancing reality.

Edit: forgot to add, I must just be unlucky not to have god select me above thousands of his own followers and prove his existance to me. Im gonna go code, at least its real. real keys. real code. real. Even science can question its own "conclusive" proof and advance past illogic.

Without artists, musicians and sound fx guys games would lose interests.
I think that some programmers can be considered as games "gods" (Carmack, Sweeney ...)but certainly not all !!!!
