There are many different ways for doing hidden surface elimination. Few basic ones are backface culling and z-buffering. You can do a search on the internet about those if you don't know what they mean.

One way to export file from 3DS MAX is to first save it as 3ds file, then convert it for example to X file using converters from DirectX SDK. You can then use basic Direct3D functions to load and render this mesh. Other choice instead of Direct3D would be OpenGL, but it's probably better to forget that one for now and tackle one SDK at a time.

It sounds based on your text like you don't fully understand how complicated it actually is to render a mesh in your own program. There might be some tools available that make it easier for you than DirectX or OpenGL does (maybe someone can point a few ones out), but for now I can't really show code because there would be too much of it. It's better if you do a search on the internet about following topics: DirectX, Direct3D, "Backface Culling" and "Z-Buffering". And read everything you can find out about those subjects..
