I have a object that is flying very unregularly across my 3d-environment. What is the best way too leave a visible trail. Must i add a vertex to my trail vertexbuffer every couple of frames according to the desired detail or what is the best way? -CProgrammer

You could try leaving groups of particles behind it, i.e. point sprites. These could also be manipulated to move various ways, so you could make them look like sparks, smoke, etc. See the PointSprite demo in the DirectX SDK, if that''s what your using.

I saw a cool vertex shader example back when DX8 was released (the sample was on a hardware site, probably Nvidea). It stretched and faded the col/alpha of the polygons away from the direction of motion to give a motion blur effect that was cinematic quality without the extra polys... could be worth looking up.
