I''m looking into building a fairly advanced resource management system. One of the requirements is data streaming (so I could have one of those endless levels). I''ve thought up the following list of choices on how to store game data. 1. Invent my own binary format and write all the supporting code. 2. Use a low level embedded database (a-la Berkley DB). 3. Use a win-zip library. In order to do data streaming properly, locating a resource in a huge file and loading it should be done very fast. I think the ideal choice would be #2, but Berkley DB is GPL. Is anyone aware of raw embedded databases with a less strict licence? Any other suggestions are appreciated.
