I am looking to fill a couple of holes over at GameMaking.com. Does anyone know of any free SFX or Music software for making games? How about programming language software? I have DarkBasic already on the site. Forward the links to info@gamemaking.com or you can post to our new forums. Just a quick reminder that GameMaking.com is dedicated to supported the beginning game developer by offering listings of FREE game making tools. Thanks! "Any fool can program... game MAKING is an art..."

I''d have to disagree with that. And programming the base of gamemaking?

Anyone agree with me here?

yeah. a little respect toward programmers whose work you use would definitely not hurt.

You forgot about the real languages, C, C++, Java, and so on.

You only have toy languages

In reality, you are probably crippling these beginners. They need to work through the basics of the more complicated languages rather than spoil themselves with "user-friendly" stuff that makes the process overly automated. If they are really looking to make games, then the place to start is learning a language, not learning to use a game generating piece of software.

Great! Four flames and no help.

Anyone out there want to post some links to help out novice game makers?

I did not intend my post as a flame. It was more to show you that you could provide resources to help these novice programmers that come in a form that can be developed to more advanced levels as opposed to software packages that do the grunt work for you but take out the flexibility and limit the extent to which you can add features of your own.

I don''''t find anything particularly wrong with having to do away with some of the grunt work when developing games for fun or experience. They call it "grunt" for a reason.

The site is not intended to lead novice game developers down any non-returnable paths. It is intended to be a resource to allow people find tools to make games easier. Obviously, anyone serious or who wanted flexibilty in their game design would need to seek out and learn more traditional/powerful skills (like C++ programming).

Blender(www.blender.org) is the best free 3d modelling tool(and it''s open source). However you might not want to put it on your "Game" Making website because the learning curve might be too steep for your "game" making novices.

Please- give the guy a break. If you can''t offer any assistance that he requested- then don''t drag the post off topic.

And if anyone can help novice developers with getting their hands on novice tools, sounds like something helpful. And when you were the Novice I am sure you would have liked a place set up for helping you.

Good luck!

I changed the tag line...

It was totally being misinterpreted and not worth the hassle of defending.
