I have been trying to discover just how I go about saving multiple bitmaps into a file so that I can contain the tiles for my mapfile within a single file. I know that I am going to have a header specifying how many tiles and whereabouts in the file my actual map data starts, but after this I don''t know much really. I have been looking around and trying several things all week but just can''t seem to find much.. I was wondering if anybody can help me out with this information, just how abouts I go storing the bitmap in the file would be a good start. Thanks for your time =*= If things seem bad, think that they can get a whole load worse, and they don''t seem so bad anymore =*=

If you have an MxN tile system, then I suggest you make each tile exactly the same size (no compression) and concatenate them into a single file. This big file can be memory-mapped at runtime so to use little main memory, and the offset of the tile to load at (m,n) can be computed easily.
