I think it''s absolutely stupid that it''s illegal to scalp tickets.. why is it legal for a stock broker or billionare to buy up a ton of stock, and sell it back for a hefty profit.. but it''s illegal for someone to buy up a bunch of tickets and do the same thing.. You can go down to the store and buy every star wars figure they own, and resell them on ebay and it''s totally legal.. but if it''s tickets. it''s illegal.. utter foolishness..

Because the stock price based on supply and demand, and other economic factors, has increased.

Well, it''s not so much scalping that is illegal, it''s the resale of the ticket.

See, a show costs the same amount of money no matter how many people see it, and they can''t force people to go see the show. So in an attempt to sell as many tickets as possible, they sell you the "right" to enter the stadium; essentially the ticket is nothing more than a contract with the original purchaser.

That way, they can claim the ticket null and void if you sell it to someone else; they want people who can''t attend the show to throw out their tickets, instead of letting someone else get them; the vendors want potential re-buyers to buy entirely new tickets instead.

It''s a sick and disgusting practice from the consumers view; but as with all things, the corporations run our lives, and we are at their mercy. Unless we stop buying tickets to stupid events of course; but stupid people will always buy those.

Using the "ticket is a contract" method, they have effectively circumvented the well-known-and-upheld "Rule of First Sale" law, which essentially makes it completely legal to resell ANYTHING that you are physically in possession of. Software vendors get around this by claiming that software is a contract and not a product.
