Hi. I have recently been browsing the Lord of the Rings Fanatics Plaza Forums, and although they aren''t the best organized forums (there are no page numbers in long threads, so they simply start a new one named xxx 2), and they only have like 14 admins and no moderators, they have something that is really cool. You can belong to any kingdom, such as elves, dwarves, gondor, rohan, and mordor. In certain forums, you get 1 Fanatic Point per post if your post is greater than 200 characters. I think that GDNet should do this, where in forums such as General Programming, Game Programming, DirectX, OpenGL, and all of the other programming-specific forums (i.e. not the community group forums). If you post a post of certain length (e.g. 200 characters), you get one point. If the forum or another forumer detects crap-posting (putting in a lot of smilies, spaces, or other characters to get a point), then points can be taken away. Also, the topic starter and the mods might be able to rate each reply, which would also give the poster a certain amount of points. This would prevent crap posting. Then you could have ranks. In this forum, even though there are only about 25,000 members, the discussions are very interesting and if you post a thread there, you can expect to get lots of helpful replies. "There are none, the GeForce2 has no programmable pipeline. It has only limited combiner capabilities, ie. a fixed set of equations with a fixed set of parameters, that you can attribute to the equation variables. The exact procedure depends on wether you use Direct3D or OpenGL." - YannL "NO. You lie! Look! Three threads down in the Beginners Forum." - 63616C68h

Based on our history, I don''t think that a system based on the number of posts someone makes, regardless of post length or which forum it was done in, is going to work very well. What we''ve been working on is a means for users to rate the general helpfulness of other members. In limited testing, it works very well.
