Thread Auto-Lock

Original Post
Maybe for the new forums a new idea:
Thread auto-lock. For example, if nobody has posted in a thread for a certain number of days, the thread locks itself. This way was old threads cannot be be ''Necroed''
Really. There is no reason at all for somebody to post in a 3 month old thread. I have never seen a thread that old be brought back for any useful purpose.
I have seen this in some other forums, and the idea isn''t that bad.
i also have a similar idea.
give thread creators the ability to delete their thread,
if their thread has zero replies. This way we could erase
multiple accidental posts...

You can already do that.
I don''t like the "auto-lock" idea, since there is a chance that an old thread is relevant to you but you might have an extra question. I mean, you could just post a new thread, but auto-locking old threads isn''t really going to stop or even slow down the crap posting, so why bother?
If I had my way, I''d have all of you shot!

Its not about crap posting. It is about stopping morons from bringing back a thread from a year ago by posting in them. AKA Necro.
Like I have said, I have NEVER seen one post on GameDev that was brough back from more than a 2 months of idleness just to ask a new question.

Happens pretty often on the technical forums.
Example: Click. Such 'necromancy' is actually very useful, IMO. If someone has a specific question about a topic that has already been largely discussed in that thread, then bringing it back is the best option.
Example 2: Click . This one originated in march 2002, and was bumped at least 5 times, adding to the discussion each time.

Perhaps as a variation of that idea the orignal poster can always resurrect the thread (if anyone wants it resurrected they can email him/her/a mod/staff to do it), and anyone who posted in the thread (with the exception of anon posters) gets, say, 3 times longer to post in the thread than anyone who hasn''t.
Well, since the latest Necro by that idiot, SOMETHING has to be done to hold off the time until the new forum is installed, hopefully there is something in the new forums that will stop these things from occuring.
Some magical thing. With 5 legs.

I believe that the auto-locking feature on the new forums is going to be controlled on a per-forum basis, since, as Yann pointed out, in the technical forums, bringing up an old post can actually be a good thing, whereas in the Lounge, it''s almost always bad.
Really, I''m surprised to see this suggestion come up again, since we''ve mentioned it many, many times.
