While looking for a flatscreen, I noticed that when using DVI, the max refresh rates of most of them are only 60 Hz. Is 60Hz on a flat screen as bad as 60Hz on a regular monitor? BTW another question, how does it look if a 1280*1024 flatscreen emulates 1024*768? [EDIT] Yet another important question: should I go for DVI or not? Is DVI really much better? [EDIT2] Are black pixels still a common problem nowadays? [edited by - Lode on March 6, 2003 4:36:00 PM]

As far as it hurting your eyes you're fine. Unlike a CRT there is no visible refresh, all the pixels change at the same time (so if you videotape it there will be no flicker or moving line, unlike a CRT). However it might not be the best for a serious gamer, (60fps max, and tearing will be more visible if there is no vsync)

Displaying 1024x768 on...
It depends on the screen. Some (mostly old) models will display a black border, while others will give you the option of blowing up the image. However blowing up the image will soften it (it's just a blending algorithm) and make text hard to see. For games the blow up is not bad (infact it's actually nice for some FPS games if you can't run them at higher resolutions, since the hardware blending helps reduce the appearence of jagged edges)

DVI
Does your video card have a DVI output? Do you plan on getting one with one? If you do then DVI can make some difference since you get a pure signal (no noice) which improves colors, though unless you're doing graphics you probably won't notice the difference between that and a decent SVGA connection. If you don't then there is no reason to choose DVI over the VGA style connector, you might even introduce small signal through the adapter.
