Hello, I'm currently looking for (a) programmer(s) to work on the development of a graphical MMORPG with my team. The team at the moment consists of an illustrator, graphics designer and web designer; therefore we have no base code structure at all - although we do have a collection of useful open-source projects at our disposal. The game will be isometric, and a lot of the graphical and movement algorithms should be written using machine level programming ( Assembly ) as a first preference (to utilize the speed of the computer). You are required to know directx and Multiplayer Client / Server protocols. Please view the graphical samples provided below and contact me so that I can go more in-depth in the development ideas if you're interested in joining the team. Character concept art: http://66.227.97.73/hero.jpg A single un-resized object with the real-life image attached: http://66.227.97.73/bach.jpg A composition of multiple objects in an attempt to create what the game will look like when an engine is intact: http://66.227.97.73/screen.jpg You can contact me via: E-mail: crush_roller@hotmail.com MSN: crush_roller@hotmail.com ICQ: 267978034 AIM: CRUSHROLLER Thank You, Robert Dean [edited by - crushroller on March 10, 2003 4:28:26 PM]

Maybe you should give us more info about your game. Alright, it''s going to be an MMORPG, but....

What is the theme?
Title?
Races? Classes?
Skills?
who are the NPCs?
Monsters/Enemies? How many XP each?
Quests?
XP system? Damage system?
Treasures?
Worlds? Cities?
Gameplay?
Interface?
Story?
What are the objects in your game?
Who is this "hero.jpg"?
Who''s going to host the servers?
Budget? Are you going to pay ppl you recruit? How much?

Uh... why would he give all that information out to strangers, most of it isn''t important in the slightest (eg. "What are the objects in your game?" "Who is this "hero.jpg"?"). If you were interested in joining a MMORPG team then you''d contact him for more information.

Secondly,
"movement algorithms should be written using machine level programming ( Assembly ) as a first preference (to utilize the speed of the computer)."
...

I strongly suggest you don''t attempt to make an MMORPG crushroller. The chances of it being completed are next to none. You should definetely consider created maybe an offline RPG instead.

I agree that he shouldn''t give that info away to strangers but he could at least set up a website presenting a project in planning and the team. That would show they are serious about the project, though I''m not saying they aren''t, I''m sure they are.

On your second point int the quote, he''s right. That sentence about assembly undoubtedly shows that the team has no programming experience.

One other point: you didn''t state wheter you''re going for 2D or 3D engine. From those pictures I''d say you''re going for a 2D engine, am I right?

Oh, sorry, you''re right.

A note to the original poster. You say you have Open Source projects at your disposal.
Correct me if I''m mistaken but if they''re GNU licence or some similar Open source projects then you can''t use them in commercial purposes and have to keep your code opensource as well if you use them.

Just a note on my side.

No offense to all the people replying but most of you are just talking for the sake of it. Please don''t! Thanks for the people that contacted me like I said, we now have 2 programmers and possibly a 3rd. Sorry if what I asked for was not perfect - none of us have any programming experience and didn''t claim to have so, please don''t be so rude when it really isn''t necessary.

The open source projects are to be used for examples and for reference. The engine itself will need to be written from scratch anyway, and it would obviously be easier and quicker to do so considering the expansions on a whole. You won''t find an open source fully functional ultima online game out there so..

Thanks for the interest, I don''t need any more replies though

so, you want to create a MMORPG with 2 programmers and 3 artists?????????
Good luck

Please tell us then, what is the magic formula for making a MMORPG ?

The skill and dedication of each person is what really matters.

If you have any knowledge of making a MMORPG, then why don't you share that knowledge, instead of wasting people's time with
your ridiculous comments.
