Does anyone here develop for Apple? I just got a PowerBook and finished installing Developer Tools. I''m overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that''s in there. Does anyone have any good tips on where to start? Any good books on this? I can''t find any. -Lewis Moronta Graphic Designer

As a non-Mac user, the only thing that comes to mind is NeHe, whose OpenGL tutorials have been ported to every platform on Earth, and then some. I believe they use SDL on Macs. It''s really the bare minimum you need to know to develop for one, but I guess it''s a good starting point.

I work on Macs quite often.

Visit developer.apple.com. Their documentation is best found online, with examples.

What development tools are you using? A lot of people use Objective-C, and Project Builder. Personally, I use C/C++ and the CodeWarrior IDE.

The Mac development community is not nearly as big as the Windows community, so it can be tricky at times.

Things you should learn first:

Understand the Sillyballs program that CodeWarrior creates (if you have codewarrior).

Learn QuickDraw.

Learn about Navigation Services.

Files on the Mac are different than windows. No FILE *fp anymore for you. FSSpec and FSRef are on the menu.

Cheers,
Will
