I''ve come up with (I think) an idea that would make a great mmorpg. I have thouht about a lot of the fine details and various ways in which to make it really stand out from the crowd. I have no programming experiance but am a retoucher by trade so I''m excellent with computer graphics. How would I go about getting my idea made? can you sell an idea to a company? would I be better to forget it completely? Do you have to set up a team of programmers and get some sort of demo together? As you can probably tell I have absolutely no idea where to go next. Getting some sort of design document together would be no problem for me at all but I''d have no knowledge to draw from on the technical side of things. What I really need is some sort of idea on the way things work in the computer game industry, the proper channels to go through etc. It would be great to get any sort of advice or some sort of pointer in the right direction

Could you define what you mean by small?

I had thought of looking into MUDs or some sort of 2d engine. I could probably fumble my way through some sort of construction kit if there''s one out there for making a multiplayer environment that you can run off your home PC using it as a server?

Start here.

The material may seem simplistic, but it dispenses and links to a lot of detailed information. Most of us started there when we came to GDNet, even if we''d written small games prior to that.

Good luck, and no, you can''t sell an idea to a company. They have full-time people whose jobs are to come up with ideas; why buy one from you? (Always remember, it''s a business.)
