Does anyone know of any freeware source code control software that works well? I''m currently working with MS VC++ 6.0 (I don''t have Source Safe...hence the question). Thanks.

I was looking for server-less software control. There is only myself and one other programmer on the project... I was just looking for something simple to help keep the code synchronized.

Just use build numbers and keep a comment block at the top describing the last few changes and what version the code is. Then, when you need to compare code, just take anything both your code doesn''t have, implement it together, then up the build version.

Both CVS and Subversion can work against local repositories, IE repositories residing on a local disk. With Subversion you''d do something like this:

svnadmin create C:\repos # create the repository
svn import file:///repos C:\quake6 -m "Initial import # import our project
mkdir C:\work # a place to put the working copy
cd \work
svn co file:///repos quake6 # check out the working copy
cd quake6
start quake6.sln

# work goes here

svn ci -m "Commit message" # Commit our changes

More information about Subversion can be found in the Subversion book, available for free online: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/

Ever heard of those new-fangled things called "computers"? They can do all that work for you, you know...

I actually came across Perforce in some Google searching yesterday. I think I''m going to give it a whirl. Thanks.
