How many polygons (presented on the screen at the same time) are acceptable? I want to know because I´m making some 3D models for a space shooter I´m planning, and it would be great if I knew how detailed my "characters" should be.

It all depends on your target minimum machine...

On the project I work on, our target max poly count is about 6k to support old machines.

Hope this helps

I''d say lies around 5000 for an action game is probably a good idea. If you have fewer models, you can probably go up.

If you have pretty detailed models, there are some great plugins for 3DS Max out there which can reduce the polygon count for exporting with little change to how the image looks. These things are great!

I think that as normaly target about 5k or 6k but you think if you have moved much somethings this do that the cpu work too and it do to go slowly
