Okay, I decided to switch to dev c++ after hearing many great things about it and loving the fact that it is GNU freeware. However, It seems really hard to setup. I ran the installer, I ran the update, I installed the dev packs, all was going well. Except for the fact I can''t even get it to compile Hello World. It''s not even like I wrote the Hello World, it is the Hello World that comes with thier program! So, after a few hours on the net, 7 test projects, and adding these lines to my autoexec.bat: SET PATH=C:\Dev-Cpp\bin;%path% SET MINGDIR=C:\Dev-Cpp I decided to come here. I really want to get it working because it looks like it has everything, plus I love it''s update program. My biggest problem is I can''t find a tutorial on setting it up (hope I''m not the only one who couldn''t just figure it out) Any tutorial that I do find seems to be for an old version, or designed for somthing specific (ie: setting it up for Allegro, setting it up for different compilers, ect) So, if someone who acctually knows how to work it could give me some help it would really, well, help. Thanks a lot for any advise! btw, I''m on the new beta version 4.9.7.8. Also, I''m using XP.
I think there's to much blood in my caffeine system.

It should automagically work after installation unless there''s a bug in the current release (it is a beta, after all).

What exact problem are you having? It''s been a while since I last used Dev C++ (BASH is the IDE for me ), but myself and others can give a guess or a link to something if nothing else.

Well, I got 4 to run so I''m guessing the problem is just with the beta. I''ll wait until the real version comes out before I start bugging you guys with questions, but hopefully it will work by then. Thanks

I''ve been using version 4 for a long time. I tried using the newer version along with its new headers but then none of my code would compile. Tons of weird errors I don''t know if I want to spend time figuring out, since the code compiles fine with 4..

The newer version uses the new version of GCC which, along with new features and incredible optimizations, forces you to write correct code (which is something people seem to have a problem doing).
