Web Design - PHP?

Original Post
From http://php.org you can download a function reference in windows help file format, which makes coding php a LOT easier. Also, crimson editor from http://www.crimsoneditor.com is a nice, simple editor. It comes with a php syntax file but you can download a better one from the site.
Now i'm having problems
I downloaded the trial version of codecharge studio, and I tried putting together some PHP, from one of the tutorials in hopes of getting a grasp of how PHP works and all that.
When I try and view the "live page", and it gives me the following error
CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.
The headers it did return are: //no headers were listed in the error
I went into the folder where everything is saved... C:\testpage, and tried opening some of the different html files...
I keep seeing things like this:

Any ideas on what the source of the problem(s) could be?
For reference, I'm using IIS 4.0 I think, or maybe 5.0 -> and I have the latest version of PHP installed, and php.exe is listed in IIS.

you must be one amazing designer to me limited by standard html design.. most often then i hear people''s creativity being limited, its usually not the result of the software they use, but their lack of knowledge in using it..

Any page with PHP code in it has to be saved with a .php extension. That's how the web server can tell to run it with PHP. It looks to me like your pages are .html... which will not work.
And cmon.. who needs something like Codecharge Studio to write PHP code? You don't need an IDE to do text editing...
Oh, and your very first program should never be something from a tutorial like that. It should be this:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
That's the way to prove that your PHP install is up and running OK.
Superpig
- saving pigs from untimely fates, and when he's not doing that, runs The Binary Refinery.

Maybe try another webserver?
Try Apache
Its quite easy to set up with php and its very stable.
EDIT: Oh, didn't notice you didn't give your files php extensions...

As it turns out, I'm just an idiot. The tutorial uses both html *and* php, and I had set everything up incorrectly.
I wrote a php test that did "hello world", and everything works fine.
I guess I'm going about this all wrong.
I wanted to make a "developers site" where people working on a game can login, and work on different aspects of the design document, in one centralized location, that automatically changes version numbers, dates, lets you add comments, and back everything up.
I was thinking it might be easier to do something like that with an IDE. I guess I'm wrong?

Unless you''re doing it for as a learning experience... Sourceforge already does a good job of that, as does CVS.
