//DBU\ I am a recruiter for the total conversion mod DBU (Dragonball Universe) We are coming along very nicely and are specifically looking for talented professional Coders who wish to take advantage of this PAYING oppertunity. This is a great TC and the team is very friendly and skilled. You will be payed upon completion of builds and betas. The pay rate can range from 60 to 100 dollars a build depending on the actual quality in the build. DBU is looking for a dedicated coder who will produce constant work. The potential coder must have knowledge of Unreal Scripting, and Quake2 coding. The potential coder must be able to revamp the Quake2 engine entirely to our liking (E.g. Add bump mapping)or heavily modify Ut2k3. The potential coder must be able to create a Dragon Ball Z based enivornment/feel to the game. At the moment we have not decided which engine to go with. We at DBU are always looking for new members with new talents who are open minded. Also be sure to visit us when our Flash designed homepage is up and running. Yours Sincerely, Craig Culp Aka. ok first of all...
do you have permission to make, release, or even sell a game using DB and/or DBZ characters?

the last team who tried that (i forget the name but the game i think was called Bid for Power) had Funimation AND Infogrames breathing down there neck and both companies had them shut down the site and agree that they wouldn''t release the models, meshes, or maps to that game, and it was a free game/TC [also it was based off the Q3A engine].

so please let us know how you plan to sell and market this game.
also can you assure and prove to us that you have permission from (at least) Funimation to produce this game?

thanks!

Firstly thanks for your questions. DBU is a FREE game. Secondly If you were behind the BFP scene a while ago ,like I was, you''d know that Bid For Power were offered to continue work as a Java based game (Quake 3 Engine spared). Further more I may get shot for saying this, but Chris the leader of BFP most likely hoaxed us all.

damn, paying for the creation of a free product? sounds weird

Anyway I'm not sure if using the names and characters for a free purpose would be illegal

btw, there are still DBZ mods in production:
Dragon Ball Quake (Q3A) is being revised by infogrames, the project is on hold
Savior of Strenght (Q2) dont seem to be having problems, and they have a nice progress on it
Earth's Special Forces (Half Life) was released some months ago, without problems it seems

point taken.
wonder why they made you go from Q3A to Java?
(if you care to mention feel free )
wow! the leader hoaxed you, if that''s true... he sucks!
(again, if you care to mention feel free )

also i have beginner-intermediate-status, programming talent but have watched a ridiculous number of DBZ and DB movies and episodes (japanese and english versions; english ver. sucks), so IMHO i''m open-minded and would like to be part of your team and in any way possible.

You may want to work out what engine you're gonna use before asking for coders. The reason being is that Quake 2 coding is completely different to ut2k3 coding. As you want some major modifications done you'll want a coder that is skilled in the engine you choose to use and someone good at hacking the Q2 engine will be completely lost in UT2K3 coding most probably and visa versa. Personally I'd choose the UT2K3 engine because it already has great graphics so you don't have to spend time improving the graphics. It also has a nice approach to coding, it uses it's own language called UScript that was designed just for the Unreal Engine.

Oh, and a bit off the point, Bid For Power is still using the Q3A engine, but were forced to remove all likenesses to DBZ characters from their game. So basically, they''re still working on it, but it''s Dragonball-esque, now.

sometimes its hard to find coders, so I assume he''s willing to use either of the two engines, the one he finds a coder for. yes, might sound unplanned but its reasonable
