Is it worth learning? Is it easy to learn, and if I do will it make it easier to learn DirectX? Or should I just learn DirectX and don't bother with DarkBasic? And is it just for graphics? Also, can you type the code into a C++ compiler like DirectX and OpenGL? Thx. [edited by - Rubes on March 21, 2003 3:16:39 PM] [edited by - Rubes on March 21, 2003 6:34:16 PM]

DarkBasic won''t help you learn DirectX. DarkBasic is a toy language.

Lo,

DarkBasic won't help you learn C++ or DirectX, but it will help you to learn how to program and structure a game.

If you haven't done much standard programming or game programming, it may be worth looking at. I made my first game in DarkBasic then converted it over to C/SDL and I found it helped me quite a lot.

But if you already know C/C++, but have never coded a game, you could try SDL at www.libsdl.org. It's pretty easy to use and it's not too slow.

Hope it Helped...

Can SDL do 3D with its own language or do I have to use OpenGL for it?

SDL uses OpenGL.. though i suppose you could write your own 3D engine if you want.......

As for dark basic.. it''s great fun.. but gets old in a few weeks when you realize that you can barely do anything with it (after a few hundred lines, the program becomes unmaintainable)... it''s like those scooters that came out a little while ago.. they were neat.. had some practical value.. but, like darkbasic, is sitting in the corner collecting dust

I guess I''ll just stick with C++ and DX then. Thx for the help.
