Dude, a Pentium 2 is plenty fast for office and internet. It could even be a pentium 1 and be plenty fast. How fast do you need word to open???

Better than my 400 mhz dell laptop!(but less portable and more noisy)

I prefer the laptop.

I still prefer my Dell 2ghz, 768ddr, 60g (crashing bastard!), geForce something or other 64mb, laptop. WITH SWEET-ASS JADE GREEN PALM RESTS!

Oh, did I mention that if you buy the inspiron 8200 the keys push into the screen so you have to always leave something between the two when you close the lid if you're not into frequent replacements? Thank you Dell. Bastards.

I would have given it 7 or 8 if you had a better graphics card.

1.3GHz is good enough for playing games. Considering that I was getting ~30 FPS on most of the new games on my 733+Rage 128(32)

As my machine (development and other) is not even half as fast, doesn''t even have half the amount of RAM, and my HD is less than a 10th of the size of that one, I would have to rate it as 8.5 (envious)...

i would give it a 6 because i just like the harddrive space.

10, better processor, ram, video, and depending on the specs of the actual hardrive, the hd should be fine.

If you mean the replacement I can live with some marks on the screen and as such haven''t opted to. If you mean the computer itself I can proudly say it really was not at all worth it given what I do but my, how I do love new toys. Cheers!

Compared to my box, this is a rather quite fast machine.

My question: don''t you think the cpu-speed evolution is going too fast? I mean, If I can choose to spend my money on a faster processor or instead buy some extra stuff that will increase the overall functionality of my computer: I choose the latter. (I don''t play games) I think functionality and stability is more important than speed. (I didn''t say it''s cheaper)
