Now I''m not talking about the "Holy Ghost" so please don''t mention it. I''ve met many people throughout my life who have claimed encounters with spirits, though I myself have never encountered one. Now, I''m wondering if anyone else has seen, sensed, felt, ect. and ghosts in their lifetime. I''ve been interested in the paranormal for quite sometime, however, without proof, it''s getting harder to believe. So, have you encountered any ghosts, and if any, what kind evidence of their existance did you find?

There is no evidence of them - if there was they would cease to be paranormal and just be normal.

I''ve come to believe that this is all in your mind. If one night before going to sleep I keep thinking of ghosts and weird things, I keep sensing weird things around and believing that there''s something out there (it all goes away when I actually get up to take a look)
And when I''m not thinking about them, well, nothing happens. So I came to the conclusion that ghosts only exist because you think about them.

pouya: So how did they come to be in the first place? Did something make it up one day and think about it and get ''weird feelings'' and then believed it was true and spread the idea?

It could also be possible that thinking about them attracts them to you so that you feel their presence (but can''t see them because they are in a different plane of existence or something like that).

I think the whole idea of ghosts is ridiculous. Especially the people who have claimed/claim to see ghosts that resemble a person.

It just doesn''t add up. If ghosts could move objects, then there''d be objects flying all over the place in every house. I know I''d be smashing things up if I was dead and had that ability.

Do ghosts age?

Another things that has bothered me (and I may be wrong on this). If ghosts can''t touch things/interact with the physical world, then why are they nearly always seen walking on the ground? This totally goes against people who have claimed to hear ghosts footsteps also.

Ghosts? B*llocks more like!

Hmm... cool topic.

I don''t know if ghosts exist, I''m almost certain that it is just a person''s mind playing tricks on them based on previous input. If you''re told that the house has a ghost that does x and y things, then you will probably think you see that ghost doing x and y things while you are in a dark empty house and are a little anxious about what''s going to happen.

My old home had a large indoor pool room. While beautiful during the day with all the windows open and sunlight streaming in, its creepy as hell at night. When you would go in there you could swear you could hear classical music playing out of nowhere.

Ghosts? Sure, it''s possible, I have had a few experiences that could classify as a ''ghostly encounter''.

For instance, I was down in my Dad''s basement, and we heard footsteps in the other end of the basement. We also heard a faint laughter, like from a child. It kind of creeped us out, so we went to investigate, and found nothing there. What was odd is that when we were looking around for something that may have caused that noise, that section of the basement was freezing, and it felt like there was a great pressure upon us, like some force was pushing down on us, like .5x the normal gravity.

I have a few more, but that''s the coolest one.

Hmh - I''ve seen pretty credible evidence (some of it on Discovery Channel - no flaming please if you don''t watch it or don''t like it) that buildings that are generally known to be "haunted", are always near or at the centre of some uncannily strong electromagnetic field. Another phenomena that is almost always present, is low frequency noise - something that stresses human beings, cannot be heard and, most importantly, causes hallucinations. Low frequency noise can move physical items as well since it is essentially the same as an oscillating air mass - it can open doors, move cups, cause your eye retinae to form unusual "ghostly apparitions" near the edges of your eyes and so forth. These, in turn, can cause the "feeling of not being alone", etc.

It has even been partly proven that with the presence of strong electromagnetic fields, human brainwaves can be amplified hundreds of times, giving a rudimentary explanation for psychokinesis (moving objects with your mind).

So far there is no credible evidence that life beyond death, in the form of ghosts in particular, can or does exist. Make my day and prove everybody who agrees with me wrong - because that would certainly give me one reason to keep on existing (do you think it''s fun to watch The Others or something similar with thoughts of electromagnetism running through your head? Bah!). I mean - what is life without mystery!

Once when I was about 12, I was visiting my friend. We were completely alone in the house, playing nes8bit in the living room. Then we both suddenly heard two sharp knocks from the kitchen. We went to the kitchen to see if something fell, and incidentally, we heard the two knocks again, this time from the living room. A bit freaked out, we went back to the living room and in there, we heard the two knocks from the kitchen again. At this point, we left the house and waited for my friend''s parents to come home.

I can''t explain the incident, but I sure as heck don''t believe in ghosts.

I got pants by a ghost when I was 8. At least the ghost said he was a ghost. He had all the requisite ghost things: sheet with eye-holes, ethereal appearance, wailing, moaning... you get the idea.

a few mornings ago in the shower i felt a blast of seering(sp?) hot water and looked at the knob and noticed it positioned at the very hot position (before it the knob was at the "warm" position). Got me kinda creeped out, never knew of the knob to spontaneously could change positions like that.

And i know for a fact that i never accidentally bumped into it.

I''ll try to come up with reasonable explanations for Drevay''s and rk''s stories. Rk, perhaps it was woodpeckers. They always seem to go for a wall on whatever room you arn''t in. THe number of knocks may have been a coincidence. Drevay, the laughter might have been kids playing outside, and if you have a washing machine perhaps something heavy in it made it jump up and down a bit, causing the footsteps, and the cold area could simply be because heat rises. The added gravity may have been air pressure. These explanations seem to be a bit odd though, I tend to think something... else... was going on. *spooky music*
