When I wake up, I am generally wayyyy too tired to even begin being a productive link in the industrial food chain of today''s selfsufficient world, or simply put: I have trouble getting up and being at work in time... This, however, does not come without some very nice treats. I usually start to dream when I''ve had three or more nights of proper rest in a row and that doesn''t really happen too often. Nevertheless, here''s a recitation of a couple of the uncanniest dreams I''ve had recently: 1) The wind has subsided and the wooden ship moves quitely on the cloudtops, probably no more than a few knots an hour. Everone on board is quiet as utter tension fills the air. The sails are slighly puffed and the crew and the passangers (including myself) are peering intently over the sides of the ship. The captain, an old seahog is like a statue, pinned to the nose of the ship. Every now and then a man high up in the observation basket (I don''t know the actual naval terminology for stuff like this) signals the steersman where and how much to steer. Holes in the clouds pass the ship slowly as the vessel slides along dangerously white cloudcover. Everyone knows that waterless cloudcover contains often concealed and very difficult to avoid holes that can easily allow a ship fall through. I can see the green meadows far below - they are kind of foggy from up here. Stuff like this continues for several hours (I faintly remember there was something fatal, but I can''t exactly remember what). After a while the cloudcover starts to thicken and turn dark as more and more rainclouds start to appear around us. There is commotion of somekind - probably because we''re moving out of the danger zone. The captain, however is still fixed where he''d been quite a while ago. Suddenly the man from the observation basket attached to one of the masts yells: "land, land!" and everyone turns to the portside. We can see a small island that''s still kinda covered in distance fog, but is nevertheless unexpectedly close. It is our current destination. Having successfully docked, only a handful of people (including myself) are allowed to move onto the island. This is because it so small and can accommodate only up to 30-40 souls. It is an island made of rock that is covered with beatuful trees and grass. It is 20 meters across in all directions at most - most of the habitat has been hewn out of the rock and we are guided "inside". It turns out this is a restocking point for ships (such as ours - we give them some vegetables we''re carrying and they give us something else - again, can''t remember what). The captain and one other importand person are invited into a closed room while a local girl starts giving me and two other visitors a tour of the facilities. I don''t remember almost anything about it except one question I asked: "where do you put your dead?". She then shows us to the bottommost room in the rocky heart of the island that is extending some distance below the clouds. There is an oblong hole in the floor there that we gather around to look down. We talk about something and finally she throws an apple down through it. I don''t really remember what happened then, only that I woke up pretty soon after... 2) Me, my g/f and one of my friends are walking in a giant hallway. My friend (not the best one I have, though) is in fact a ghost-like apparition rather than a real human being. I mean, I can easily tell it is him and he talks to us and everything is quite normal except for the fact that he has no clear form, no visible facial features and only kinda makes sense inside the dream. Anyway, we''re walking and suddenly for no apparent reason we''re being chased by a man who''s entirely dressed in black. When he stands he''s lightly moving, something like the Skaarj soldiers in Unreal 1. His being dressed in black reminds me of Darth Vader even though the black stuff he has on seems to be clothes. I do not remember the first half of the chase, only starting from the huge hallway that splits into two - the left ramp is sloped up and the right passage, level as it is, seems to be leading underneath the left one. The two are separated by a huge bannister. For some reason we figure we''d fool the man in black and go along the right passageway. We don''t figure this out before we''ve walked quite a distance along the left one so we have to climb over the bannister and jump down on the other side. My g/f goes first because she''s a she and me and my friend follow. When we get up on the bannister we can see a ceilingless room on the other side. For no particular reason I know that the room is a scaled down version of itself - it has walls and it is situated across the passage down below (so that we can see in from above). It is a classroom - there are tens of moster-like (the closest things I can think of are Orcs in LOTR) creatures moving to their seats in preparation of a lesson or something. I know that if we make a sound they will notice us, storm out and become their normal size again (probably proprtional to the hallway we''re in, so I''m signaling everyone to be quiet). By this time my g/f has jumped down on the other side and is waving to us to do so too. After having jumped down and following the passage to its extremely dark end, we pass through a door and arrive in an incomprehensibly huge hall. It is probably as high as several hundreds of meters and at least 1-2 miles long, but not so wide. The floor is covered with a beautiful well-groomed lawn and the lighting is impeccably even. I know without any reference at all that we''re behind a giant stage area (had we taken the left passage, we''de be on the stage). I don''t remember seeing the giant curtains that separated the two, but I remember they were there. At this point we start taking it real easy - we laugh and play word games as we slowly move across the lawn. When we reach the other side, we''re so satisfied with ourselves that we decide to race each other back to the door. As we start running, however, the door in the other end opens and the man in black enters. We turn around a run in the opposite direction. After having taken some radical turns in some really narrow passageways, we come to a huge clearing that seems to be right outside the hall with the green lawn. There are humongous walls blocking us from exiting the clearing and in the middle of it there''s a lake (that looks an awful lot like water in Stunts - you know, featureless). At this point we think that we''ve lost the man in black, but right after that we notice him some distance behind us. For some reason I know for a fact now that he can walk through walls... I don''t remember what happened next - this is pretty much when I woke up. This leads me to a question: has anyone ever lived through a "physical" trauma or death in their dreams?

I can only recall four dreams I''ve had, and only one of them very clearly. The first one was a dream I dreamt when I was about three years old or so, and it must''ve scared me like hell, because I can still remember it very clearly. My dad and I were in my room, playing some game, when suddenly, a curtain begins to wave, then it turns into an... electric guitar, and kidnaps him.

Dream number two is a classic: I am falling, and then, just before hitting the ground, I wake up.

Three and four are quite odd, and I don''t remember very much frm them, except the fact that they were mixes of things... I think the combinations were The Belgariad/Duck Tales, and Some comic/Doom/cannibalism.

I just hope that no psychoanalysts read this, or the men in white coats might come to get me soon...

The dreams I remember, I usually don''t remember them until the actual event in my dreams is happening in real life! Scary thing is that when I do, I know what happens next and other weird stuff...

I get that quite often. I find myself ''hitting the bed'' - I''m not sure if it''s just a sensory illusion, or if I do actually throw myself at the bed.. very weird though.

I have the same type of experiences. I''ve only had a few dreams that were "unusual"; most of the dreams I have are like what you described.

I remeber one dream I had many times when I was quite young, probably 5 years old or thereabouts. I was standing on a dock, looking out over a calm lake. I couldn''t see anyone else anywhere. Then, a man walked up behind me--I think I was waiting for him. He said something, just a few words, and we walked away together. I only remember the dream because I had it so many times. Also, I think I dreamed it in the third person, like I was watching myself.

I pity the people who don''t have/remember their dreams. Just one suggestion here: sleep well for several nights in a row and you might start to remember.

As for the falling experience - I''ve read of a hypothesis that for the duration of your dreams your soul leaves the body and your you actually wake up (without outside interference) when your soul returns to it, which is generally said to happen in some similar manner to the falling experince... go fetch what that might mean... I suppose there''s the ever existent need for an explanation for your dreams that''s all.

As for the deja vu effect mentioned by bastard2k5, I must say it''s sometimes pretty freaky. brrr... I mean when you see someone in the street and you just want to go up to him/her and talk to them as if they were your best friend or if you totally recognize some location or something happens to you that you''re sure has happened to you before... Freaky...
