Ok i am making an rpg game which will have mostly outdoor scenes and some indoor. Is BSP necessary for this or am i fine with just frustrum culling and octrees? As far as i know making a program to generate bsp trees is not easy to make and might not be as big a help in an outdoor scene. What do you think?

You''re right that BSP is going to be pretty useless for large open spaces, so that''s one reason to stay away from them.

They have their uses, but since octrees are essentially a replacement for BSP and are better at it (in some circumstances), then you should get away with using them.
