From what I understand, he actually manipulates the shape of the magnetic field itself, so he can determine the point of attraction. I dunno, I''d have to break out my old comics.

You can always cause a neutral object to be polar by induction using a strong external charge. Then, the negative charges will line up on one side, making the other side positive. True, this will cause an attractive force. But if he reverses his charge as soon as he induces the neutral metal to be polar, then the metal will repel I suppose.
Think pithball. After induction, one side always attracts, but if you switch the charge of the external object, the attraction becomes repulsion.
Edit: On the earlier version of this post, I stated that positive charges line up on one side and negative charges on the other. I lied. Positive charges don't move. The one side was made positive because of the LACK of negative charges.

but when you polarize by induction, and then reverse your chage soon after, wouldnt it merely reverse the poles of the object?

Well, even if there is scientific explanation, it is a movie and not everything has to have its roots in truth.
Now, how does Wolveriene heal?
His mutagenic midichlorians accelerate the molecular harmonics of his musculoskeletal system, causing rapid rehomogenization of protoplasmic flux capacitance. And neutrinos. Lots of neutrinos.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Well duh. Everyone knows that one! Now explain Cyclops'' eyes, Storm''s powers, and Nightcrawler''s ability to teleport

Well duh. Everyone knows that one! Now explain Cyclops'' eyes, Storm''s powers, and Nightcrawler''s ability to teleport![]()
Nightcrawler: He doesn''t teleport. Here is what he does. When he''s with a group of people, he says "OH! Look over there!" and everyone looks. While everyone is looking the other way, Nightcrawler runs really fast to the new location. When people turn their heads back they will remark "Hey! Nightcrawler''s gone. He must have teleported. And we were right! ''cause there is he is on the monitor in the new location. Wow, that was some good teleporting."
Storm''s powers: It''s call PMS m''dear.
Cyclops'' eyes: Y''know how they say that "it" will make you go blind? The rumour was a bit skewd. You see, Cyclops was a perfect little angel and never did a thing like that. He was the only one in the world who was left uncorrupted. See what power you could''ve had had you been a good boy and didn''t do "it"? Let that be a lesson to you all!

The X-Men universe is highly unrealistic, unlike Spiderman where everybody has plausible powers.
X-Men is rather unrealistic, however, with the powers of several characters appearing in affiliated comics (most notably Magneto, but also Angel/Archangel, Apocalypse and others from X-Factor, X-Force and Excalibur) having to be revised downwards to keep them from becoming all-powerful. Spiderman also has a touch of humanity to him: in the comics he often had/has rent problems; he loses family; before he got married to Mary Jane he had to compete with that Flash kid; his wife comes from an abusive home... Spidey deals with issues that real people deal with. Oh, and his address actually is real, though I think that was unintentional. (Interestingly, the tenant for the last several years, IIRC, was named "Lee".)
Where X-Men and all the other X-titles shine is in discussing issues of prejudice. Think of it as a metaphorical civil rights study. Prejudice and intrinsic hatred are themes that run throughout the series, and the reaction to that is what fuels Magneto - in addition to childhood trauma and the emotional tragedy of losing a child, or something like that.
As far as amazing bad guys in the Marvel Comics universe go, though, Magneto''s probably about number 3. Apocalypse (primarily because he''s devious, but also for his genius), and that world-eating thing that Silver Surfer is always up against whose name I forget (he''s just too large to make an appearance in any terrestrial-focused story). But yeah, Magneto''s one bad mother. He actually caused Wolverine to lose the admantium on his skeleton by pulling the metal through the flesh, leaving it mangled such that it had to be surgically removed.
Just thought I''d share.

I should have known! That''s why there are no male-storms and why she bares at times an uncanny resemblence to other girls I know.

Eh, I never really needed laser eyes anyway.
