slow connection

My ISP sent its clients a warning email some two weeks ago that they''d be disabling all network connection about a week later for a few hours. So they did. After that, however, my network connection has been a total disaster - the connection is still there, but before any page is loaded, the browser hangs for up to 1-2 minutes and there is no network traffic (I see this from my firewall''s indicator). So I called them (my ISP) today and asked what the problem might be. They said that on their side everything was OK so - blah! I might''ve tampered with IE settings which I reset already, but I''m not sure if stuff like that can cause such slowdowns. Enybody ever had anything like this? What''d you do to fix it?

You have dial-up correct? Well the problem may just be a coincedence with that event you talked about. Maybe something with the phone company happened at about the same time and now you are getting signal degredation. Changing IE settings doesn''t affect your connection at all, at least not in the sense that you described. Try unplugging your phone line from your PC and the wall, untangling it if it is tangled and switch the direction you had them in (eg. plug the part from your PC into the wall and the side that was in the wall in your PC), this may help, as sometimes surges from such things can cause some bad mojo to build up in the cords.

Thanks for the reply. However, I have cable. I''ve tried restarting the modem, too, but to no avail....
