Well, I just recently got the C++ for Dummies: Books 7 in 1, by Jeff Cogswell. I just started reading the book and the first thing he wrote to do was begin a new project, with console format selected. He said to save it and then run + compile it. In the book he gets a little window that looks like DOS that says "Press any key to continue. . ." However, everytime I try to do his exact steps I get an error. Line File Message 2 C:\Dev-Cpp\New Folder\2 unable to run program file This is all that I am trying to compile and run: #include <iostream> #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { system("PAUSE"); return 0; } Apparently this is supposed to result in the DOS-type window that I described above. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I looked into the compile log and found this:

Executing g++.exe...
g++.exe "C:\Dev-Cpp\New Folder\New Folder\main.cpp" -o "C:\Dev-Cpp\New Folder\New Folder\main.exe" -L"C:\MilkShape\C++" -L"Stuff\Dev" -L"C++\Dev-Cpp\lib"
Execution terminated

For some reason there is stuff about Milkshape. I had a C++ compiler in there, but I deleted it and decided to use the compiler that came with the book. Anyone have any ideas of what could be going wrong?

so which compiler are you using?

the log suggests that you have specified numerous link targets which aren''t even used by the program...go to preferences and make sure you aren''t linking anything that isn''t default

1 quick thing u can check is, go into System Properties (Rightclick my com->properties).
Go into
Advanced->Environment Variables
and check to c if milkshape has added any paths to it that haven''t being removed
