This weekend, my friends and I were gonna go out into a forest in the middle of the night to film a very scary "documentary" for school. It''s gonna be about paranormal phenomona, but we''re gonna add some ghosts and crap with adobe premiere I just need some suggestions on how to make this even more scary Btw, we''re gonna use the nightvision to make it look cooler \ Thanks

Shaky cameras and the idea there may or may not be a witch involved.

Its all about the sublties! Most movies these days go "WOW LOOK AT THAT WOAH! AAHH! GHOST! BLAH BLAH!!!! *airhorn*" and its like I wanna say "hey! Back off!"

My suggestion is to add little things to it that aren''t obviously pointed out. Maybe a shadowy figure in the far background hanging from a tree. I''d also create a few "ghost" characters. Reveal their pasts, their violent history and death, etc. That way, if you see these ghosts, you automatically create the feeling of danger. Maybe, if you get lucky, the feeling of dread that you just might see these guys.

I don''t really know much about this "documentary" though, so I don''t want to make too many suggestions.

Well... a couple kids in my Social Class made a scary movie last year on some South American rebellion.

Simply they had the first five minutes of semi-useful content, then the last fifteen minutes where just them running around shooting things and doing matrix style stunts (in the "woods" of Fort Saskatchewan).

I must say--I have not been that scared for a long time.

This sounds like a great movie for scantally clad women that take a shower halfway through for some not very plausable reason. Then, wearing only nightgowns they kill all the badguys/evil demons/one handed killers.

Meh, we''re just gonna go out pretending to look for paranormal beings in the middle of the forest
The small things sound good. I think I will try to incorperate some sort of dark figgure from a tree.. maybe some fast moving ''orbs'' or lights behind some trees.. heh, this is gonna be awsome!

Take APC''s suggestion, and create a fictious website for it, and film it in a small town. Small towns are always scarey.

You know, I was going to make some stupid Blair Witch joke, but why? I''m sure everyone was thinking it anyways. I''m going to bed.

I think night vision would look stupid, but that''s just me I think filming it in the dark, with some flashlights or something would be more scary.

I like the idea of little small glowing things or something. Also, you probably thought of this already, but definetly throw some scary sound effects in there... branches cracking underfoot, howls, screams (if applicable, etc...) Don''t forget to set the tone with some music as well.

I''d probably make it more like a movie, even if it is a documentary. As such, I''d make sure to have some creepy camera angles to. For example, a good one might be one in which you can tell there is something behind someone, as the camera follows them from behind, slowly. Then, the person spins around quickly towards the camera (*dramatic sound effect here*) and there is nothing, no sound, but their heavy breathing (and maybe a light heartbeet sound... lol)

Anyway, it does sound like a really fun project. Hope you guys have fun with it

I agree with smarechal that no music can enhance the effect, but I think it would be even better if you had music most of the time, but have some sections that are totally silent. You might need to do a ''voice over'' so you can totally remove all sounds but your voice in those sections, but it would be a neat effect to have the crickets stop chirping etc for dramatic effect =-)

Bear in mind that what people imagine is usually scarier than anything you can put on screen - but don''t overdo it. Many people I know found the BWP laughable because there wasn''t much to set the imagination going - just the kids going ''oh my god oh my god,'' and given that they were teens it could have been that they''d seen a poster for an NSYNC concert or something (no offence to teens on this board).

Use sound, music, shadows.. but above all, make it look ''authentic'' or ''realistic.'' If you''re going to amplify crickets chirping, do it properly.

I''ve found that people generally laugh at scary films because they''re actually bricking themselves, whenever there''s a moment of comedy relief in a scary movie people piss themselves laughing for that very reason.
