I posted this on the IGDA forums as well, but thought I''d try for the gamedev forums as well to broaden my potential audience. After graduating with a bachelor''s, I found that I had no decent work to show for my subsequent years of education. I got an art degree with an extensive minor in computer science, and I ultimately want to be in the higher level (abstraction-wise) echelons of game development - art, level design (any kind of design really), scripting, etc. Since I had no job, I got in a grad program in software engineering, where I basically do whatever and get a grade for it. I wrote a design doc for a game project and am trying to trim it down to fit my timeline, but I''m wondering if one big game project is the way to go. The game project aspiration would lead to an entry in the IGF for the 2004 GDC. Should I try for a complete project, or do some mod work on other games, mapping, scripting or other supplemental work to other games? Which of these would be better recieved, and a better use of my limited time? Rich Wilson Starving artist, graphics programmer, aspiring game developer http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Rich_wilson

I personally am not currently employed, I''m a student in a computer programming course in college. But, from what I see, game designers like to hire people who have created small demos "showing-off" what you tend to be good at, not someone who created a whole game. Here''s one idea I''ll give you that could possibly get you hired: A game demo which circles around a mountain feild and then goes up to a top-down view of the mountain range and shows that the mountain range is actually a picture of something (you, girlfriend, etc). This was done by someone (I forget his name) who was in the same position as you. He sent his program to Lionhead, and was hired.
