I have the oppertunity to move from using Visual C++6 to the latest VC .NET version. Can someone tell please tell me the major problems I will experience in moving to the latest verion with regards to my old programs. Will VC6 projects open up normally? Will I have to do some kind of "conversion"? Is there major syntax changes? I really appreciate any help and apologies if this is asked every other day.

6.0 projects will need to be updated to the 7.0 format, just like the switch from 5.0 to 6.0, however everything should compile normally.

You should however read Microsofts document referring to changes in the VC7 compiler. There *are* some (minor) issues like variable scopes in for-init loops.

You can''t really take converted projects back to VC6.0 when you have converted them into .NET format..

Thanks Guys - I went ahead and upgraded. It was a pretty smooth transition although the new IDE takes a little time to adjust too :| All my projects upgraded except my terrain program. The Fault Formation algorithm I use inside for my highmaps just makes a mess now.
