Just this morning I have posted a Topic and Ive seen many people message me wanting to help. But I notice that half the people in GameDev do not know how to make games. Half are little 9 year olds that have a crazy Idea of making a game and want to get a team of people they can boss around without having any prior game knowledge. So I Repropose My Idea For only people that know how to Program/Model/Texture/Make Sound fx and music. I do not want anyone who says they can help with storyline since thats no real help. Iam Thinking about A ninja style game writtin in C++ OpenGL. This is just for people that want to get started making 1 real game with 1 real team, for people that have been a 1 man army for the longest and cant find any decent help. If your interested in joining this team reply to my post or you can contact me at aim(Majin Gotenks200) Yahoo(Super_Sayjin_3_gotenks) MSN(Supremedarkenergy@hotmail.com). This is only for people that are serious about making games for people that want to join a good team.not for those who just want to talk about making games and dont get any work done. Requirements(Some of the fields may not apply to you depending on what you want to help on so I labeld them ^_^) E-Desire to make Games P-C++ Programming Knowledge P-OpenGL Programming Knowledge M-Able to make MD2 Models M-Able to make good realistic or semi realistic textures S-Good with realistic Sound FX S-Able to make nice music(pref .midi format) P=Programmers / M = Modeller / S = Sound Guy / E = Everyone -E.I I wont be on for like the firt 4-3 hours after i post this but when i get back ill be sure to contact everyone who replied. Well for free, 9 year olds is pretty much what you get.

If I can figure out what your saying, I think your meaning that only 9 year olds would work for free, and anyone with even a little talent would want to be payed. If not ignore what Im about to say

If that is what your saying, then read on...

Ive seen quite a few posts on these forums saying "how much will you pay", or "You aint getting anything for free", and quite frankly thats utter rubbish. Theres plenty of people out there who are damn good programmers/artists/musicians who do this as a hobby. Now correct me if im wrong, but most people dont get paid for doing their hobbies, which is why its called a hobby and not a job. And even game programmers themselves work on their own projects and dont get money for that (and trust me I know a few, even I do it )
I suppose it does all go back to the majority of people that populate these pages, people who assume they can knock together a quick game design or game, and then make millions out of it. Get real. Most people do it for fun on here, and thats what it should all be about.

Oh well, Ive finished my little rant. Hope you get the help you need Majin Gotenks200 (Interesting handle youve got there :D)

Majin, you should step back and ask yourself, "Why would someone want to devote 1000+ hours to my project for free?" I understand that, in your mind, you think people should be happy to devote so much time to your "ninja-style game". The fact is, you give no reference to what you can do, and nobody is going to help you out unless they feel they have something to benefit from it. Sorry if that doesn''t agree with your egocentric ideology, but that is the truth.

I suggest that you take some time to write up a design for the game you want to make. Take a look at what is out there to make the game with. You can certainly save yourself alot of time by using a pre-existing engine. Garagegames.com has a better one than the majority of people around here could program. Also, you might consider making a MOD instead. The Unreal 2 engine is pretty powerful, and you already have alot of stuff to work with. As an added bonus, there are alot of people already familiar with mapping and coding with those tools.

Most of the people around here that can actually program only do small games and demos. It just takes too much work to create a game from the ground up with limited resources. Anyway, if it takes people with gobs of money and talent to make a game in 2 to 3 years, then it would probably take most of us 5-10 years.

Anyway, just write up a good design document, detail how everything will come together, put up a good-looking website, try to use pre-existing engines and software, and you might be able to get a team going.

I know what you people are saying about working for free in a game I dont give much reference too. But if you read my first post carefully youll notice Iam not talking to those big time been making games for 10 years now. Iam adressing those people who recently learned enough OpenGL to make a game but cant find a good team. This project is just for those who want to work together and getting the experience in of making a game, I dont really expect anyone from blizzard or from id to help me. This is so amateur programmers can get together and make a good game they can use as a reference if they ever wanted to work on a big project, since half of these post are about people asking I need a good programmer and modeller. They obviosly dont know what it takes to make a game so its not a expected they finish one. I have a theory you can not be a teacher without being a student first. So this project is all about working no people that just give ideas in and dont do any work of their own, since we all have brains and are creative so we dont really need people bossing us around and giving us idea especially if they dont know what it takes to make a game. So in response this is a game that pays = 0 because its for amateur you dont expect to make it to the major league and make big bucks with out playing for the little league for free first. And for the references to the project this was just a idea not a huge big time project just something small (that wont take 1000+ hours) so thats why I didnt bother with details.

-How can I contact you Anonymous Poster do you have aim yahoo or msn?

-And when i refer to nine year old iam talking about those people who have no skills of their own and just want to make up a storyline while bossing you around and being leader, I refer to them as 9 year olds since they dont really know what it takes to make a game so they just send out crazy ideas of stuff that seams near impossible for you to do. (someone who obviously shouldnt be leader)

Ok find then but dont expect this to be the next zelda game. Basically this game has no real storyline just gameplay.

(Scenary)
-Heightmaps and quad trees used to make the Mountain''s regions in which you play the game.
-Weather system it will rain, snow, fog up and go from night to day in a Weather system I would like to make using a particle engine.
-Each Ninja has a small hut on a random place on the mountain

(game play)
-Each Ninja has a floating orb surrounding them as a way to deteremin their strength(the bigger the orb the stronger that ninja is)
-Ninja has a variety of small attacks you will have to use to make a combo to make 1 nice attack. (example Jump+Kick+Spin = Jumping Spinning round house kick)
-You can hit the trees or destroy the grass and fight random AI controlled ninjas if you spot one as enemys
-Models = md2 format
-A rpg style 3D Fighting game.

-No pay.
-Modellers, Programmers, Sound people needed.
-Coded in OpenGL and C++.
-Modeled in mD2 format.
-Will look good on portfolio for future games.

please stop flaming this guy! there are actually people who like to program, thus not having to make money from it, and are not so arrogant to live the illusion their work is worth any money at all.

getting together to make a little game is fun when you have the time for it and nice people in your team instead of a bunch of arrogant pricks, and i would definelty have joined if a wasnt overoccupied already. i really hate all this bull about detailled design documents. design documents are worth even less than code, the main difference being writing designdocuments sucks ass and coding is fun. if you have a small team pulled together you can discuss what you want to do precisely, so everybody gets a say instead of working out someone elses ideas, which is way less fun.

mr. AP, ever heard of punctuation? probably not, but i can assure you putting a period in your posts now and then might actually give people the courage to read past the second sentence.

My God, there was a second sentence? It looked like one giant, run-on, paragraph to me...you may be giving this kid too much credit (lord I hope he is a kid, otherwise what is the adults coming to, resorting to using cursing within poor grammar context). I wish you luck Majin in your endeavour, if my team had the time we would help you, but Legends of Saryia is kinda the priority on our list and a MMORPG of our caliber is nothing taken too lightly.

ROFL! I dought you are a writer since you used no puncuation or capitalization! If you really worked for those games and make, quote, "big money," then why don''t you use your real name, or even show some proof! Who would believe an anonymous poster who wrote one big sentence starting out flaming, and about where the 8th sentince should be, start asking for him to contact him if he needs help. You''ve got problems man.

Could not agree more with the first poster.

Probably 1% of the posters on this board would be good enough to work in a commercial team, 20% can probably dream about it and rest 79% should go die. I think the issue is this simple: If you are either stupid, lazy or both you are not going to cut it.

While I don't believe everything the original poster says, I read this thread as "Lol ur attaking mah, I attakh ur grammah, cunt!"

To me programming is only a hobby and I'm never going to even cosider programming as an career since I only enjoy it as a hobby. I like to work free without any pressures and on my own, besides there are plenty of better things to do than work in underpaid field, 24-7 sitting on your ass trying to get it done before deadline so that you can actually test it. No thanks.

However, most people here overestimate themselves. I'm nothing, you are nothing.

I''ve worked on casual projects before and whats mostly lacking (in my experience at least) is motivation. Everyone starts of strong and has plenty of ideas to contribute but eventually things start to slow down and other commitments take over.

I would love to work on a project where everyone is motivated enough not to give up once the actual work begins. I just wouldn''t want to be trapped in a situation like this again where all my work goes to waste. If you can get past that stage and keep the team motivated then your chances of actually finishing would be improved greatly. Talent and experience don''t count for absolutey everything (but they definately help), afterall.

Good day. I would like to say that that last AP''s post has got to be the funniest thing I''ve ever read. Seriously.

"i do story line Writeing and modeling and programmeing cc+ and VG 346-ddvs34 very high well studed to programme took 19 years i started programmeing at the age of 4 most kids learned how to tie there fucking shows but i leraned how to start programmeing at that age"

Ouch. It hurts my face to try to comprehend you. as far as I can tell, you do writing, modelling, and programming in the languages cc+ and VG 346-ddvs34 (anyone heard of either of these?). And, here''s a lesson to everyone. Don''t start programming too early, or you might end up missing all your spelling classes and grammer and all that good stuff.

"you need to have your game all made up with the Game Desine Document tells people what your game is about the story line and all that will be in the game how big will all the objects be and the size of the players and the weight of the weapons and what environment how high can the player jump what size gap can they crawl through, etc etc"

Yes, a design document can talk about all these things. But, in a smaller group, I''m sure open discussions can get these things out as well.

"i get paid lots of money to do game desine documnets"

I really, really, really hope you can use proper punctuation and spelling in your professional game design document. Because, you know, it''s really hard to follow your train of thought like this.

"its a long and hard work to do if you wanna have a good game for people to like and play"

Don''t people who play games mostly care about the end product, and not really how perfectly the design document was written? I mean, when you play a game, do you sit there and think "Hey, I bet this game''s design document was so beautifully laid out, was
never changed, and probably gave such concise descriptions that there were no questions about any aspect of the game", or do you think "SWEEET!!! THAT KNIFE JUST STUCK IN HIS FOREHEAD!!!!!!!!"? I personally would be more inclined to think the latter (if, that is, the knife did indeed stick in his forehead).

"if you wanna sell it E-mail me back bear86@hotmail.com man and ill get your game to be makeing big money"

A man (or woman) of your skill and you''re using bear86@hotmail.com. Wow. Now that right there is professional sounding. A person with your stature, after all, you worked on CS and Unreal2k3, with a hotmail account. Incredible. I''m speechless.

I doubt they will let you work on a Sesame street ABC game, since you should be the one playing it. But enough of the AP I still really want to get a hardworking team going. I want a team that will actually finish a game cause like one of the "posters" said, most of his work went down the drain cause they never made/finished the game. Iam sure this happens to alot of you, how many times have people posted ideas about making a MMORPG and how many have finished?, not that many possibly at best a 10:1 ratio have actually finished. So I would like to get a dedicated team going so we can actually finish 1 game. Again if you are interested you can contact me at Aim(Majin Gotenks200) Yahoo(Super_Sayjin_3_Gotenks) MSN(Supremedarkenergy@hotmail.com).

Am I the only one who is starting to believe gamedev needs to stop allowing anonymous posting? If they want to put their two cents in, they should at least sign up on the board, I mean its free for crissakes. I am sorry for all of you who post AP and do not pull the crap this guy is, but something needs to be done about this, I thought this was a game development forum not a flaming war.
