who can make a better game if given a brand new out of this world , alien constructed , virtual reality , 12th dimension , playstation 49 in 300 years time. i vote for Will. Even though carmack (god of fps programming) will come up with some flashy Doom 666 engine, Will''s the Sim in space will have more gameplay and i say will be a better game.. (just a rant, since i am so so so bored)

Oh, well why not just combine the two, and have a Doom III sim where you control where to put monsters and other killing machines, and watch as your respawns grow into a community, and eventually take over the earth.

That would be Dungeon Keeper.

It's strange to compare Will & Carmack. Will is a designer, Carmack is a programmer. They also want to make totally different types of games.

You can''t really compare the two since they make totally different genres of games. Will Wright makes excellent simulation games with alot of drama and comedy about them, and tends to be more in depth with his projects. Carmack makes action titles that push the limits of current graphics technology. I''d say they are equally matched in their game design skills, but my idol here is Will Wright, since I believe the game should be fun and meaningful, not just a bunch of eye candy strewn together.

Carmack. In the 12th demension, Carmack''s head on a robot body will make Doom 500 and beat Will Wright''s SimBlackHole.

After having seen and listened to both of them in person in the past few days, I''m not so sure they ARE in the same century (or same planet) as us.

What is the point of arguing? Will Wright! After a point (just like Carmack himself said) graphics will be pretty much as good as they can get! The PlayStation 49''s graphics will look a LOT like PlayStation 20''s graphics. But processing speed will be SUPER SUPER high by then, giving Wright plenty of room to create awesome AI in games. Well, not HIM, but his people.
I like the DARK layout!

Carmack. I find sim games to be incredibly dull and at least Carmack games have nice graphics and explosions to keep boredom at bay.

Carmack. Wright's Sims is so sadistic it isn't funny. I'm not talking about the stuff you can do with them. I'm talking about the pointless aspect of the game. Who the hell (besides the ever-amiable trend whores) would pay to take care of a digital person? Go get married and have a kid. I always get creeped out by the thought of some person sitting at home and fretting over the life their little digital person is having. Oh, and Sim City + the annoyingly boring billions of expansion packs got old in '98.
Lastly, what did Wright do for the game industry? No one but him and his company make those games anymore. You can argue that AOE and company owe something to it, but those did so much more in that they brought about a far cooler and intimate gameplay experience by actually beign able to see the things you were dealing with, besides the buildings and cars. I didn't give a damn in Sim City over the health of my buildings- it wasn't called Sim Building. It was called Sim City. You need people for a city.

And, oh yeah, Carmack inspired every FPS in existence. He's constantly pioneering the next big advance in graphics. Just look at the kick-ass job he did with lighting. And he basically did that all by himself.
