Engine Programmers Wanted

Original Post
I am working on a 3D Space RTS in my free time, and I need 1-4 relatively experianced DirectX programmers to heavily modify the GRAPHICS ENGINE, as well as the Client-Client multiplayer engine.
Pay will be in man hours worked / total team man hours, and will only be paid after game comes out. This is mostly a hobbie job, but it will be AWESOME! A cross between ST: Armada 2 and Homeworld 2, with a completely origional unaverse.
Aplly Here:

t worry if they look bad, just show us that you have done something already.

but it will be AWESOME
Could you please explain us what is going to be AWESOME ? If Id like to contribute to your project (Im programming in DirectX for about one and half year), Id like to know more about the game than just the fact that it will be AWESOME. Unfortunately you haven`t taken the time to read your post and correct typos, so how are you going to manage people all over the world in different timezones ?

Ok.... First I have to say that my main language is french, but I still find it very irritating to see people who make so many grammar mistakes. If you want to get a team working over the internet, you have to avoid communication problems, but with such a poor handling of the english language, there is no way you can do that. You have to make an extra effort and learn how to speak english better.
Second, if you want to pay people by the number of hours worked, you have to keep track of it somehow, and over the internet, there is no way you can do that, unless you are constantly watching your team members through webcams.
Third, I totally agreee with VladR, this is the standard issue with newbies to this board... You say you will pay people only once you complete and get published, but there is absolutely no guarantee that will ever happen. I also dont believe that space RTS are extremely popular, apart from starcraft. If you can''t pay people right now, then dont mention anything about pay.
Fourth, either you dont have a website, or you dont want people to see it. Since this is a serious project, I advise getting a good looking website hosted on a server without ads and a .com domain name. What you are talking about is a large scale project, it deserves a website.
Fifth, who are you? what do you do? These are two questions you should be answering in your post. People will hardly trust somebody without knowing who he is, without any background information about him.
To conclude, if you are serious about making a game, then be serious when you try to recruit.

Dudes, you are totally brilliant! Instead of supporting fellow amateur developers, you spend time finding fault with their ideas! I mean, damn it, dtekfoo, this is a world ruled by the mighty corporation and things like trust and old-fashioned oral contracts have no place here! Were you born yesterday? And another thing: enthusiasm and ambition have no place in the entertainment industry, so you can just forget your dreams of developing games. I mean, just to start, you need a magic publishing wand and a crack team of expert developers from NASA. What a newb!
Seriously, vlad and max, don''t you have some 1337 haxoring to do or some shit?

What ?!? I found Max and Vlad have been very reasonable and polite about this. They are so right...would you help on this project ? Its called constructive critism.
No biggie. Get a website, post more info and screenshots. And learn to use Word''s spelling check. Then people will take you more seriously.
Third, (was there a second?) dont call people newbs. I am sick of that label. It has no meaning anymore. Its use nowadays is childish.
Sorry this is off topic. But it will stay that way if you don''t take their advice.

Or maybe they were raising genuine concerns and actually bothered to express them as opposed to your style of blatant sarcasm that makes a point (albeit in your case an inarguable one) in an entirely unnecessarily roundabout fashion (not unlike this very sentence!).
EDIT: And since when is it wrong or not at all helpful finding faults in others ideas? It would be utterly stupid to simply embrace and praise everything he's proposed. No offense to the OP of course.

You guys got me all wrong. I totally agree with you.
Totally.
I mean, it would have taken precious moments and bandwidth to simply peruse dtekfoo''s article and ignore it if you weren''t interested, as opposed to replying to his topic and criticizing him for it, which is negligible in time and effort!
Really, what are these forums coming to when a member of gamedev posts a topic for help wanted in the help wanted section? Thank you, gentlemen, for your undying attention to detail and for reminding us all that when it comes to forum posting, it is important to always put the proverbial horse of syntax before the cart of semantics!
Personally, I think we should gather together all the people who have more gusto for hobbying than practicing grammatical skills and rap their knuckles with the ruler of bulleted critique because, let''s face it, nobody wants to work with someone who doesn''t spend twenty minutes revising a two-minute post. School ma''arms of gamedev, unite!
By the way, I''m starting a club where all the members search the "help wanted" section of their local newspapers and reply with nasty comments to all the ads with spelling errors. Sound cool? You can join: getalife@lame.com

You are no better than them when you keep complaining about this. They were trying to show the OP what he needs to do in order to be successful in finding team members on this forum. They were helping him understand his faults, and what he needs to work on in order for people to take him seriously here. The only person out of place here is you, so take your sarcastic and pointless remarks elsewhere. You are doing more harm to the OP than they were.
