Hello everyone, I am new to GameDevelopment, and new to this web-site. I just have one simple question. Which development library is easier to learn? DirectX or OpenGl. I just need one answer on which one is more dummy friendly. I am sure that they are both excellent development libraries ,and I hope this does not start a flame war. Please, I just want to know which one will help me create a 2D game in the next 2 months or less. Thanks, Robert Eastman

Don''t use either one! Use Allegro! I''ts teh bom! But if you have to choose one, then something''s wrong. Use both.

DirectX and OpenGL are hard to compare. Direct3D and OpenGL might be a bit easier.
I like the DARK layout!

Remember, I don''t wanna know which is faster or which is cooler.
I just need to know, which is easier to learn.
Oh dear.

The keyword is easier.
Please do not post which is faster, or cooler, or sexier.
Please.

This is a very simple question. I would say that Directsex is much better for making games - in fact, the whole experience is quite pleasurable.

DirectX/OpenGl -> api''s

Allegro/SDL gameprogramming libs

Actually Allegro is the only lib intended entirely for game programming.

If anyone says there is an EASIER lib than allegro than they should be stoned and exiled from there village.

OpenGL is graphics only, and I don''t think you''re going to go from newb to DirectX game writer in two months

Use Allegro. It''s multiplatform, the Windows version is a partial DirectX wrapper, it''s compatible with OpenGL and it''s dirt simple to get started with. Best of all worlds; it owns your ass.
