A little advice on asking questions to get good answers:
In this case, at least state the language you are using. If you have a file / IO libary in mind say that you want to learn that.
IF you are using C, then look up the stdio libary (stdio.h). if however you are using C++ you can use the stdio libary, but using the standard iostream one is apparently recommended. (it could be ostream and istream as well, someone will have to confirm that)
If your using VB, it has some built in file features as well..
