Original Post
Ok, I posted before looking to join a project as a programmer. However, that ended in results I did not want, so I'm going to be a bit more clear this time around.
ABOUT ME:
I am a highschool student going on my senior year. Most people consider me to be fairly above the standard high school level programmer(made a 5 of the AP test, for those who care). I have won numerous awards for programming including(I'll just list the highest ones in each contest): Nation Qualifier Visual Basic Programming(BPA), Member of State Qualifing Software Engineering Team(BPA), First Place at state Programming Technical Test(or something like that, i forgot the exact name)(Skills USA-VICA, note state is as high as the competition goes), Recognition for Computer Science Skills from my school district(given at a school board meeting, not from a contest), Regional Qualified programming team(UIL). I know C, C++, and VB. I'm best at C and C++, followed closely by VB. Sadly, I lack any real programming experience, and any examples of my previous work were lost in a harddrive crash recently(please do not flame, it really happened, i'm not using it as an excuse). I would consider myself to be at an intermediate programming level. Anyway, my graphics experience is limited to only Allegro, although I am currently learning openGL and I've had some exposur to DirectX. I've also dabbled a bit in socket programming.
(beggers can't be choosers, but...)
WHAT I AM NOT LOOKING FOR:
Thanks to my last post, I've learned to post what I'm not looking for(other programmers, you probably know the feeling). I am not looking to write an "engine" for some scheming game developer hoping to profit off of the stupidy of others, I do not want to write some next generation 3d version of "game designer pro" or whatever little kiddie game scripting engine the designers seem to be so fond of. Nor am I interested in writing a 3d engine, I do not have the skills, and quite frankly from what I can tell, the people that want to write one don't either. I do not want a project whose design docs consist of "A space game that supports up to 10 players, real or AI than can be played over a lan. There will be a menu system". Also, no RPGs, they just don't interest me.
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:
Preferably, I am looking to be part of a team that has some experience that I could from working with. Ideally I would like to write file handling, data calculating, and other functions that do not really interact with the user. Although, the chance to work under/along side a graphics programmer so that i could learn the ropes of that field would be very appreciated
. I would really like if the game designers were programmers as well(keeps your heads out of the clouds a bit
) and/or that a serious design doc is done or close to, I don't really want to hang about all summer, to find out in the fall that it's nothing like what I wanted to be a part of. I am willing to work for no pay, as long all the jobs are no pay and if a profit is to be made, i expect a fair share of the profit. However, making freeware is just fine with me. I would prefer to be invovled with a strategy game or MUD.
Contact me on AIM, ICQ(rarely on), this forum, or email (joedimichele@hotmail.com). I know this was a bit of a demanding post, but please do not flame too much
Thanks,
Joe DiMichele
