whitening your teeth

Blend-a-med''s not working for me any longer. I''m daily realising that my teeth are yellowish and I really resent that. They''re pretty healthy, but a fair share of matched color floss has done a good job with making them uniformly beige, mostly due to the fact that I used to be a tea addict.
I''m looking for temporary solutions that wouldn''t ruin my teeth and wouldn''t cost that much. I remember seeing something on Friends where Ross chewed some special teeth whitening gum or something and ended up having neon-white teeth that glowed in the dark. Even though it was turned into a joke, the idea seems pretty reasonable.
Nevertheless I haven''t come across any such products. Can anyone suggest some effective non-expensive method or product (possibly name it)?

The one time I tried it, though, it caused these whitish blisters on my gums..... ow.

No, I''ve had mouth ulcers. These were not them. There wasn''t any broken skin or anything... they were just..... pearly white. And painful.

Don''t bother with "whitening" gum. It''s absolutely worthless.
So it doesn''t work or it doesn''t work + it costs a lot of money?

IIRC, "Rembrandt" toothpaste is pretty good. The one time I tried it, though, it caused these whitish blisters on my gums..... ow.
Was that because of some allergy you might have had or because it does that. Other than that - does it work, is it worth trying out?

I recommend White Brilliance from American Dental Supply.

White strips do in fact work well but they only get the most visible portion of the front of your teeth. This leads color variances between the front teeth and the partially visible molars. White Brilliance is the same exact formula you''d get if you''d go to your local dentist office.. except you have to mold the trays to your teeth yourself (which turns out to be extremely easy).

The Crest Whitestrips work really well.. after a week of proper use, I could see a substantial difference in my teeth. They''re pretty powerful, and can be a little hard on the gums, but they work wonders.
ya the strips work pretty good but they can be a pain to remember to do it and you have to leave them on so long and all the goo....
I use a Braun - Oral B 3d power brush. If you use that and brush twice a day you''ll have nice, naturally white teeth. Don''t use whitening toothpaste though. Its like using softscrub on your teeth. It will make your teeth whiter, but will severely damage the enamel. Anyway, using that toothbrush makes a huge difference.
If you can, stop drinking cola and other caffienated beverages. Not only will your teeth will stay whiter, you will be healthier.

Try Night Effects. I forgot who makes them, it''s one of the big toothpaste companies. I used and they worked great. You just paint the stuff on with the supplied brushes every night. They''re cheaper than the whitestrips, too.
Keep in mind that absolutely no over-the-counter treatment is gonna compare to a professional whitening by a dentist.

BLASPHEMER!
Cutting out caffeine? Are you MAD??? There''s got to be a better way.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I''ll try them out as soon as I can.
FYI, lunarss, I stopped drinking Coca-Cola and any related products (Pepsi, Fanta, Sprite) a long time ago. I''ve cut back on tea 95% and I don''t drink coffee. I drink Lipton Ice Tea and some local products (anyone heard of Ace?) and occasionally uncarbonated water.
Yellow teeth are ugly to look at (especially on girls, I might add - it serves like an invisible barrier sometimes that makes you so not want to kiss someone... - especially when images from Austin Powers enter your brain - eugh).
Just one more question about white strips: how long does the effect last? Do I have to shell out money daily/weekly/monthly/yearly?

How does toothcolor matter if you don''t have oral sex?
What the? Ever heard of smiling? When you''re kissing you can actually see the color of his/her teeth a lot less than when you''re talking to them so I guess the aesthetic value greatly outweighs the whatever-you-call-it other value.
