Quick question. When you say you use SGIX_depth_texture in your program, does that mean when you make your depth texture, copy it and such, you use GL_DEPTH_COMPONENT as your format? Or is there someplace where use actually use SGIX_depth_texture? If not, why dont'' they just say "we use GL_DEPTH_COMPONENT" instead of SGIX_depth_texture? Thanks. Robbie

It is used for shadowmapping.
render the scene for light view and capture the depth values.
(then project it for eye view to create shadows).
That's all i ever used it for.

you can create the texture using the depth_texture.
support on Geforce 3 and above and Radeon 9500 and above.

and yes the depth_component is a setting for the texture.

You''re also better off using ARB_depth_texture, it a slightly different spec I think (not by much) and will probably work on more hardware.
