I am doing some research and need to download an old C compiler, preferably Microsoft''s (I already found borland''s turbo c 2.01, it''s available from their web site). Does anybody have any idea where I can find microsoft''s compiler? (Sorry i don''t even know its name).

I don''t get it, since they don''t sell it anymore how is someone who needs it going to get it? I only need some files from the library...

AFAIK they''ve never said you can''t have old versions, but due to lack of demand (it''s hardly a common request) have never seen the need to release it.

Things move on, old products no longer get supported or made available. It''s kinda like moaning at Ford for not stocking spare parts or releasing technical manuals for a Model T they made back in 1908.

No doubt if you have some sensible reason for needing an old version of VC, getting in touch with Microsoft and talking to them would help...

If it''s just an old compiler that can target DOS you''re after how about Watcom which is now Open Source: www.openwatcom.org

If it''s the Windows headers and the like, then they''re actually part of the "Platform SDK" rather than the C compiler.

I had Visual Studio v1.0 It was actually a bold step away from the DOS based IDEs before it.
