Hey! Just wanted to throw out a poll of what graphics engines (low cost-free-or otherwise) people are using, and why you do or do not like it.

My own, which i have developed over 2 years.
It''s fun adding new features, and you definitely know what your creation is capable of.

Awww, come on. Surely some people are using something packaged. I can''t develope an entire system right now, because developement time can''t take more than a few months, it''s got to have a lot of features, and it has to be a cost effective solution.

I''ve been working for a couple of weeks on v4 of my engine, though it''s got a new name now... I LOVE my engine! You''ve gotta realize that''s it''s 50x more FUN and satisfying when you get it to work well cause you made the WHOLE thing!

I use my own.

My own.

Haven''t done any major work with third party engines, so I can''t really comment on that. From the free ones, Ogre looks OK. Or Torque. But besides a quick browse over the API references, I have no experience with those engines.

I use my own, and have been working on it for about 5 years now. I used to think one day I would finish it and start writing some games, but now I know that that is highly dillusional, and so im just happy to be rewriting the whole thing over and over and over again. Besides which, if you want to do anything other than just write an engine, your going to need artistic talent, which I highly lack.
The reason we all have our own is because we want to. It doesnt make any sense at all for everyone to go out thier and reimplement the same thing over and over..
Although unlike everyone else, who appear to be happy with thier engine, im always unhappy with mine. (hence the constant rewrites)
[Also, there is a mass conspiracy to never use anyone elses engines, because then all the people who write engines for a living would be unemployed. Cant have that now can we?]

Anyway, some engines you might want to look at:
-Crystal Space
-OGRE
-Torque
-Genesis
-Octagon
-X Engine

(ordered in percieved popularity..)

I use my own.

The way to finish an engine is to lock down your feature set and then go thru a check list one by one knocking things off it until there is nothing more to check off the list. However, it''s easier said then done. I must avoid the temptation of new hw
