Has anyone tried the PlanetSide 7-Day Free Trial?
Is it worth the huge download?
I got it, but my systems not good enough to run it (runs at about 2f/second in heavy battles. Looks like an okay game, but I don't know how it would be like to dedicate to it (and pay). Anyhow, as the Download's free, give it a try (Unless you plan to download it on Dialup !)
Oh yeah, and you need about 6gb free to install, it's a 1.5gb download, then extracts itself, then installs at 3gb.

I was in the exclusive and open beta for Planetside. I really got into the game at the beginning, it was fun and all but after a while I got bored of having to run from base to base. Yes there are vehicles in the game however not everybase has access to them. There were some minor lag issues when too many people were at the sanctuaries, but they fixed that problem really nicely. I think MMG-wise its one of the best, Im just not into the whole paying to level up yet. Maybe someday I will see you in a game like Planetside, it has a lot of potential. Come to think of it, I will give it another chance and download the 7 day trial, heh I used to be pretty good.

I''m currently playing it (Werner server - EU). It has a fairly disgusting system requirement (ignore the game min. spec.) but it''s good fun. No RP, not much other than repetitive "sieze control, lose control, sieze control..." attack and defence but once you get yourself into a squad or an outfit, it''s damned good fun. Yesterday, two friends from my Jumpgate squad, a couple of strangers and myself spent several hours defending a base from a force of attackers twice as many in number anf firepower as us.
However.
I wouldn''t run it on anything less than a P4 1.5Ghz, 512 Mb RAM and a GeForce4 without expecting lag and choppy graphics. Be warned
265Mb RAM I''m told is do-able.

I played in the beta, and I don''t think I''d ever buy the final game. Unless you''re really into a giant game of tribes that NEVER ENDS! There''s really no point to anything you do in that game, so that gets old fast.

I beta tested (exclusive & open) the game. It was cool and fun for a while. Got boring eventually. Too easy to level up IMO, and if you want to play you have to enjoy the act of wasting dudes in itself: there is no plot, no advancement really, just capping bases/towers, moving forwards, etc. The game is exactly the same when you''re battle rank 1 as when you''re battle rank 20.
That said, my Reaver skills pwn j00 all.

I''ve only played it a few hours, but so far the impression I''ve got is that it''s a fun game, but your money would probably be better spent on a game like Battlefield 1942 which doesn''t require a monthly subscription. Also, it''s a bit too slow paced for my tastes -- soo much traveling for so little combat. O_O
If anyone else here plays the game though, I''m playing as FatHat in the US West Markov server, in case you want to track me down and make fun of my poor aiming skills

I got as far as 1.1 GB out of 1.4 GB before my connection momentarily disconnected >_< Think it''s time to download a download resumer?
I imagine BF1942 _IS_ a better game though, and doesn''t have the fee. I''ll have to see after I try PS.

I never ever try to download large files without a download resumer - If anything, once the windows one downloads it Copies it across to your save location, doubling it''s footprint on your drive.
If you don''t have enough space when it tries to copy it, You lose the whole download.

When I was doing a video for a class on my computer, I was EXTREMELY low on memory, and had that happen to me before. Thankfully, more than 50% of my laptop''s 40GB drive is clear at anyone time now

heh, I learnt the hard way. Downlaoding like, a 1.2gb file off of fileplanet on the university computers. It was about 2am (so I''m not using others bandwidth) and I had been sitting there for about 4 hours waiting...... then it happened. I foolishly assumed that because I had enough space to download it, windows could.
I have planetside. It''s cool in that you can really just spend time now and then playing. There aren''t really huge numbers of options as far as rank gains so you don''t need to spend every waking moment in the game.
One of the things that is interesting is how well they pulled off the whole massive multiplayer war concept.. particularly with the leadership hierarchy.
Very very cool.. check it out.
