Is it nessesary to install the "slow" debug runtime on my machine, if I want to develop DirectX with C#. A friend of my said the the debug version is only for C++ developers, and that I only need to install the Retail version. I thought the debug was for developers and the retail was for the end-product users.? /Anders

The debug DirectX runtime helps development A LOT.

The debug runtime is slower, and is intended for developers.

This doesn''t matter however, because when you install the Debug runtime, the DirectX installer automatically installs the Retail runtime at the same time.

With the Debug runtime installed you can go to the DirectX applet in the Control Panel and switch between the Debug and Retail version whenever you want!.

You don''t (AFAIK) get that option when you only install the retail version.

So my advice: if you''re developing software, install the debug version. If you don''t like the performance you''re getting afterwards, go to the control panel and change it.

If you are really concerned about speed, why use the slower C#?
