Just out of sheer curiosity, how many of you smoke (tobacco)? How old were you when you started, and why did you start? I smoke socially (if I''m out with friends and everyone else is smoking, I''ll crash one and spark up too), and have done for a couple of years. Not more than once every two months, really. What about you? Superpig - saving pigs from untimely fates, and when he''s not doing that, runs The Binary Refinery.

I just quit. I started smoking 2 packs a day Lucky Strike non-filters. After a while I realized how I couldn''t really walk anymore without getting winded so I slowly went down to 1/2 pack of marlboro lights and kept trying to quit. Then when I really couldn''t breath anymore I got the patch, which worked wonders for me.

I was fanatically against smoking until I turned 16. Then I started myself. I''m 23 now. I attempted to stop for 5 times now but all failed miserabely. Probabely because I really didn''t want to stop but because it would be better if I did (e.g health, money).

My girlfriend doesn''t smoke. I have promised her to quit before we start living together (about a year from now I guess??). For the rest, she doesn''t have any problems with me smoking and she won''t hold it against me if my quitting attempts fail.

I really love my girlfriend for that :-)

My had my last cigarette some time around half past never.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

I never tried out. This stuff stinks , there has never been a reason for me to try.

Never tried smoking, but i dont think i ever could. Even if I''m in the same room as someone who''s smoking, I start coughing hard, and feel like i''m gonna die.

Hmm, interesting. My dad takes them same view as many of you - he''s never smoked, and never wants to. He said he''d ''understand'' if I were to smoke, but he''d be disappointed.

Funnily enough, both he and my mother said they''d prefer I were smoking weed than tobacco.

I take the view that it''s better to try something like smoking at least once, so that you know *exactly* what you''re missing. Plus, you can tell your friends ''quit trying to push me into it, I''ve done it and I don''t want to do it again.''

I smoked for about a year during college, just to see what the addiction was like. Apparently, I never found out. I quit cold turkey with nothing more than: Hmmm.. sure is a long walk to this restraunt, a cig would be a great way to pass the time. I liked the feeling of the smoke coming out of your lungs and the occasional buzz, so I was going through a pack every other day or so.. but I decided it was a waste of money and quit.

I still don't understand the addiction people supposedly have to it. I suppose some people could be just more genetically dispositioned to addiction than others.

EDIT: Best brand by far is Gallouise, Blue packs. Such great cigarettes. I also liked lucky strikes unfiltered as another poster mentioned.

Its quite easy to go from socially smoking to a addict, I''ve heard stores of both. So just make sure you don''t fool yourself into becoming a smoker.

I personally don''t smoke, but my friend started when she was 11, and smokes a 1/3 of a pack a day.

Um... Don''t you know that the smokers are the "uncool" crowd nowadays? I smoke because I don''t want to be cool. I smoke cigaretes, pipes, and cigars. Of course, I get the real man''s tobacco and not that factory produced with chemicals added stuff. I smoke brands that are so smooth that even an asthmatic can smoke it and feel fine. (I know, my friend is an asthmatic and he smoked them.)

I smoke tobacco (along with weed) occasionally,... once a month or so... (although i haven''t smoked for almost 2 months now)

I think moderation is the key when using any (addictive) substance, you can get away with a lot of stuff if you don''t go overboard.

Also, i keep the use of those substances seperate from real life. That''s why i *never* drink alcohol during weekdays, only on weekends. I won''t allow myself to drink/smoke more than that.

I picked it up a couple of years ago during a realy lousy time in my life. Did it mainly because I knew it bad for me. Now its kinda a when I feel like it thing. Never got hooked and tend to do it for a while then stop for a while. It tend to use it when things get kinda nuts. If there is alot going on at work or something its kinda a nice thing to do. Something to do to take your mind off of things without actualy doing anything. I''m currently smoking a fair amout at work. During breaks and lunch but almost never at home. Of corse if there is drinking going on somewhere then I tend to smoke like everyone else. The two just go together some how.

Hahah.. I had to smoke ALOT ( as in multiple heavy drags) to get any buzz, and this was from smoking unfiltered lucky strikes and gallouise cigarettes. Those are two of the ''strongest'' cigarettes you can buy. I have a suspicion you''d be lucky to feel anything from the patch.
